Default High School player hits winning shot, then collapses and dies :(

Sad, sad story...

Quote:
Tragedy struck Western Michigan on Thursday night when Fennville (Mich.) High basketball star Wes Leonard hit a game-winning shot in a 57-55, overtime victory over Bridgman (Mich.) High, then collapsed on the court while celebrating the victory and was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly thereafter.
Quote:
Making matters even more disorienting for Fennville fans were the events that transpired just before Leonard's death. The junior -- who was also the quarterback of the school's football team last fall -- not only hit the winning shot in the team's final regular-season game, but by doing so he also ensured that the Blackhawks would finish with a perfect, 20-0 record.
Watch the video on the bottom, some really touching things said by his coach, and it's actually pretty tough to watch him tear up. I had to watch the video in sections, but you can just see the emotion, especially at 2:45 where he says he wishes he could trade places with him. I also really love the show of solidarity by the teammates at the end of the video.

-How fragile is the flame that burns within us all, to light each passing day.

RIP

not to seem callous, but as sad as this story is, people die everyday.

It brings me back to the year I was all over Bo kimble and Hank Gathers. Hank had a massive Ally oop then collapsed at center court and died. Bo brought their team far into the final 4 that year and shot every free throw with his left hand to honour his fallen friend. Quite an amazing story.

all very sad.
