Default College Craziness

I don't know if any of you guys pay attention to college sports but there's a lot of stuff going on. Most of this has to do with football but basketball will be affected.

Big 12 on the verge of collape, a great bball program in Kansas has nowhere to go
Nebraska to Big Ten (Mizzou, Notre Dame, Rutgers are possibilities)
Pac Ten taking Colorado and possibly another 5 Big 12 schools (Texas, A&M, Tech, Oklahoma, OK St
rest of the Big 12 teams might go to the Mountain West Confrence (not good for Kansas)
and it looks like other confrences might be expanding or collapsing

and this

Quote:
The NCAA threw the book at storied Southern California on Thursday with a two-year bowl ban, four years' probation, loss of scholarships and forfeits of an entire year's games for improper benefits to Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush dating to the Trojans' 2004 national championship.

USC was penalized for a lack of institutional control in the ruling by the NCAA following its four-year investigation. The reported cited numerous improper benefits for Bush and former basketball player O.J. Mayo, who spent just one year with the Trojans.

The coaches who presided over the alleged misdeeds -- football's Pete Carroll and basketball's Tim Floyd -- left USC in the past year.

The penalties include the loss of 30 football scholarships over three years and vacating 14 victories in which Bush played from December 2004 through the 2005 season.

USC beat Oklahoma in the BCS title game on Jan. 4, 2005, and won 12 games during Bush's Heisman-winning 2005 season, which ended with a loss to Texas in the 2006 BCS title game.

Didn't think they would go down on USC but I was wrong. Nicely done and it seems right.

There is a rumor that A&M and Texas might go to the Big 10. I forget where I read it but there were a couple links on it.

I heard the 6 Big 12 schools would go to the Pac 10, I don't think they want to split the former Big 12 South teams

I read that the Big 12 comish was the mastermind selling the BCS to prevent a playoff and letting other confrences make less money so teams from the Big 12 would want to leave

maybe Henderson leaves USC to go to Ohio State now

Yeah I didn't think the NCAA would do anything to USC. Boy was I wrong. Big ups to them. This is a pretty good blow to USC.

coaches really need to be held responsible

I agree. Also if I were USC I would look into Suing Reggie Bush and his agent.

Agents and Players should be held accountable as well.

Man what a mess.

yup, Reggie and OJ Mayo cost the university tens of millions now
wins were vacated and a title taken away, other kids worked hard to win and Reggie took it away from them
it will take them 5 years to get back up with scholarships being taken away and players don't wan to go to a school with no postseason for 2 years

yup, they are in a deep hole in a competitive confrence
its hard to come back, especially when in state players start going to Mich St, etc...
Miami was dominant in the 80's and 90's and now they're not as relevant
the worst was when SMU football had a "death sentence" and couldn't give out scholarships for years
Baylor just got back in bball
Alabama had a big ban and came back in 5 years

I think Jails in Canada have higher standards than the "U" did back in its glory days. Your right though its very easy to dissappear in college sports. I remember Syracuse Football used to be very credible but now just a shell of its former self.

I don't have many tears for any of them personally. College sports is all about big money and dirty practises. Makes the world of Soccer look clean

This is what kinda sucks. Pete Carroll even though he said he had no idea knew for sure. Now him and Reggie Bush will get no punishment(well Bush could lose heisman) and have already benefited from this(NFL contracts).

Now USC players like Matt Barkley have to face the punishment because of these guys. Fair for them? Nope not at all.

But USC did deserve the punishments. Sadly Bush and Carroll will both get off free.

The Broncos will officially join the MWC on July 1, 2011, when the MWC will roll out the likes of Boise State, Brigham Young, TCU and Utah (and maybe Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Missouri?). By adding the Broncos now, the league can include Boise State's impressive credentials from 2008, '09 and '10 when it applies for an automatic bid to the Bowl Championship Series.

Nebraska has formally applied for membership in the Big Ten, and listening to chancellor Harvey Perlman and athletic director Tom Osborne, it's easy to see why.

Perlman and Osborne gushed about the Big Ten at the Nebraska Board of Regents meeting Friday, as the school took another step closer to officially switching leagues. They identified Big Ten strong points such as stability (especially in relation to the Big 12), academic excellence, the Big Ten Network and tradition.

Even Big Ten weather, which always seems to be a knock against the league, actually appeals to Nebraska.

Reports continue to circulate that Texas A&M is at least considering its options with the SEC.

Ultimately, you wonder if Texas and Texas A&M would really split off from each other and what political pressure would be applied for them to stay together, because it sounds like Texas doesn't have much interest in coming to the SEC.
I hope the **gies split away and stop leaching off Texas

According to ESPN Texas told Pac 10 "no thanks" and the Pac 10 Texas + others left are going to try to stay together and keep the Pac 10 alive.

you mean BIG 12 alive and yes I heard the same thing. There is gonna be a Big 12 version 2 forming with only 10 teams. Be interesting to see what happens.

If Texas would join the Pac 10 they'll be as strong as the SEC I'd say. Although it seems Texas isn't too trilled to go out west

Correct. Keeping the Big 12 alive. That was a typo on my part.

Yeah if Texas & Oklahoma went out to the Pac 10 you would have 3 strong teams once USC rebounds from the trouble. Then a bunch of solid/good teams. Would of been a pretty strong conference.
