Dude, when Sid gets mad, he can take over games. It's crazy. He can take over more than Ovechkin can. The key to stopping the Russians is pounding the shit out of Ovechkin physically. We know Malkin doesn't do well when he's had to play physical. Same goes for Kovalchuk and Semin. Datsyuk won't go anywhere near physical play. The Russian D-men are pussies.

That attitude is why they did that. It's funny that they win a game and you laugh at them for thinking they have it on lock, then you say whatever we'd beat them if we meat them again. Sidney is a gamer I just don't like his whining with the refs. I agree Canada has to clog and get physical. Also, something Canada didn't do vs. USA is get in front of the net. They godda screen the hell out of Nabokov and also stop getting so many players on the PK. Just keep the PK to the skilled Penalty Killers.

Did you even bother to watch the Canada-US game on Sunday? If you did, you'd know that the Canadians thoroughly outplayed and outshot the US. The Americans got a few lucky bounces and they capitalized on it. So, statements like the one you made are complete bullshit.

I dunno Mango, they're definitely up there. Single elimination games do alot to make the playing field seem more equal.

I mean Latvia and Norway were close to knocking off Slovakia and Czechs and they're nowhere near the same level talent wise.

Yeah, there's no Sundin, there's no still-in-prime Forsberg (who is a bigtime international player), in prime Tomas Holmstrom even Nik Lidstrom isn't the same guy from 4-years ago. And really, they haven't faced any real stiff competition. Finland isn't stiff competition.

This is why I don't take Sweden that seriously. And everyone knows that if you play them physical they shy away and their game goes south.

The only thing that they have going for them is King Henrik. He can win games by himself.

If Sweden can beat Russia, Canada or the US, I'll give them their respect due.

They've played pretty well thus far and have looked like the grittiest team out there.

Grit can only take you so far. At some point, lack of talent will be exposed.

In a single elimination game, grit can get you pretty far IMO. I find it's more about 'who wants it more' than talent (provided one team isn't vastly superior - i.e. Norway vs. Canada).

Finland made the last olympic finals on pure grit. They're probably the grittiest team in this tourney, but their lack of talent is what their ultimate downfall is.

ya - i diffenetly agree that you need a presence of both talent and grit/determination, but which one is more important? that's where it gets blurry. Like you said, Finland made it all the way to the finals (and not on talent).

But more importantly than all of this is who's goaltender can get hot and stay hot for the next 3 games. That's who will win the gold - the team with the hottest goaltender, simply beacuse it's a single elimination game.
