It's all childish.

because most americans don't give a fuck. it's behind nascar, that's why they don't show highlights. but ultimately they are a sports network with multiple channels and the nhl was stupid not to renew with them then.

No, it's actually been a good business decision, seeing how Comcast is growing and they've received more money than ESPN was willing to give.

ESPN again offered to bring in the NHL, but the NHL refused. They've done well for themselves.

And honestly, your first two sentences, are based on nothing. Hockey is a regional sport that does well in regional markets.

Really, the only sport in the US to have popularity regardless of region is football and that's because it's laced into their culture.

Baseball, hockey, nascar are all regionally based. If it weren't for the Yankees and Red Sox nobody in the US would give a fuck about baseball.

I'll say what puckheads say here when people bitch here about baskeball highlights not being shown until ten minutes into a boradcast, they show what sells. If more people wanted to see it they'd show those highlights more. Same applies to the states when it comes to hockey. As for Hockey doing well regionally, i would say half the american markets don't do all that well regionally outside the traditional markets (Chicago, Philly, Detroit, Boston). And if it was all about regional viewership the Raptors are doing fine, 2009-10 they were 3rd in the NBA in regional viewership, but all people talk about here is interest for the whole country which makes little sense. Things are viewed with a double standard here. No NHL highlights on ESPN....someone's just being childish, NBA highlights not shown here.....well that's just because nobody cares.

Jeff....I don't get why you hate hockey so much. I don't have enough time to explain to you why you're wrong and misinformed right now. You make some good points, but I think you're very naive how:

a. business works
b. media works
c. politics works (and not big p politics, small p)

I think, and this will come across as douchey but whatever, educating yourself on some of these things maybe you wouldn't speak in so many absolutes as you are (and have done in the past).

Your disdain for one thing is blocking you from understanding a lot more of it.

And this is coming from a guy who's not a big hockey fan himself.

Don't know, i don't watch ESPN. I was responding to what Claudius had said since he seems to actually watch it. I don't get ESPN.

23MIL (NBA) vs 4.6MIL (NHL) is bigger coverage to you?

I would have to think ESPN shows hockey highlights, but it's probably 20-30min into their broadcasts after the sports people actually care about in the states (ie: NFL, NBA, NCAA, Nascar, Spring training), not because they're childish,it's a business. LOL It's not as if ESPN needs hockey.
