I once bowled a 252. My ex gf at the time came to bowl in the same lanes I was at...something kicked in my mind that I needed to show her up or something because for that next game I couldn't miss. Had 6 strikes in a row I think at one point, spared everything else. I kept the printout..pretty faded as that was over 13 years ago but it was fun while it lasted
Now 252, that's awesome. Were people gathering around? I had 6 in a row during one game too and people started looking over. I actually got nervous that I'd get a perfect game, but alas...wah wah wahhh. Total crap the final 4 frames.

I think the oil patterns at public places are geared towards making scores higher.

Nah, it was a mid-week summer afternoon I think... there was hardly anyone in the place.

Last night at my monday league I had a really good game going. Strikes in the first 7 frames and I was starting to attract a crowd. One guy totally jinxed me too by yelling out something just before I went to shoot my 8th frame... I wasn't mad because I may have missed it anyways...but it was definitely distracting. I ended up getting opens in the last 3 for a 319.

I admit I don't know much about the prep for 10 pin lanes, but I know where I play 5 they don't do much prep work at all. The lanes really aren't in great shape and we'd never host provincial tournaments as a result. A lot of bowling lanes go into disrepair. They seem pretty popular so I don't understand it.

My mom used to bowl in a semi-pro league, but she's also never been able to run for more than 10 seconds without hurting herself. Great woman. Great talents. She's where I get all my athleticism from.

I'm so inconsistent in Bowling. I once scored a 78 and the game after I ended up scoring 154.

5 pin bowling? Never heard of that. Must be a Canadian thing.

Yeah, much smaller ball is used with 5 pins. I find it harder.

It is a Canadian thing actually I would agree it's harder initially to play 5 pin. The ball is a lot lighter and smaller and so getting it to go straight consistantly is very difficult. With 10 pin the ball is big and heavy and really just goes straight in the direction you throw it so you can get to be okay at 10 pin pretty fast.

Where it differs is getting really good... once you 'master' the 5 pin it's easier to get to be a really good bowler, but taking the next step in 10 is very difficult because it usually means you have to learn the spin and that is very hard to do, and do consistantly.

The last couple of times I played 5 pin, I did really well. I think I'm better at 5 pin than 10 pin. Possibly because i'm a weakling.

A lot of it could be your state of mind too. I find if I'm distracted, or focused on something else and I'm not thinking about bowling I do way better. If i'm in a bad mood I dont' tend to do well.

But in either case, what I said was just general from my experience, there are always exceptions and you could just be one

See i always found 5 pin difficult because the pins are alot more spread out and it's harder to hit them in the exact spot that'll get you a strike. I found that i'd always get a split. Maybe it's because i didn't play 5 pin much, but i had a harder time with 5 pin.

Yeah that's what I'm saying...it's harder to pick up for those reasons exactly... but if you were to start playing regularly for a couple years you'd likely get it and once you did, taking the next step is easier.

It's kinda like Snow boarding vs Skiing. Snow Boarding for most is hard to pick up..you fall all the time at first but once you get it you go to the blues really fast. With skiing it's easier to get down the hill without falling but to become a good skiier takes a big leap and usually a lot of time.

I Love that scene in Napoleon Dynamite where Kip is bowling and the lane doesn't have any gutters. So even though he gives it this awful toss, the ball just bounces from side to side on its way down before it knocks over some pins. Kip responds with a great fist pump. It's hilarious.

My hands are too small for the normal size bowling balls ... it's pretty sad, really.

So what do you end up doing? (I, personally, just say "heck with it" and dorkishly bowl with 2 hands.)

Thanks ... feel like I'm about ready to burst.

I try to stretch my fingers out as much as possible... hard to get a good grip, but I'm a geek.
