2016 olympics vote

Quote:

COPENHAGEN – Chicago was eliminated in the first ballot of voting for the 2016 Olympics on Friday, a stunning defeat for the city that was expected to be one of the two finalists. Tokyo was also eliminated, leaving Rio de Janeiro and Madrid as the finalists.

Not even the presence of President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama — nor a long list of celebrities — was enough to help the United States' third-largest city.

Chicago and Tokyo are eliminated. Final is Madrid Vs Rio. Who will win?

In an hour, they will announce it. I think it will be Rio.

Madrid should win, Rio shouldn't.

Rio's security is a big concern. But there has never been olympics in South America and after london 2012, two in a row in the same continent is not likely. It has never happend, actually. Madrid is the candidate with the most installations prepared and with the highest national support at 95% so that should be good points for Madrid though.

The olympics are run by a bunch of gangsters. It's nice that Rio got it though. I hope they don't throw all the poor into a big hole or something.

Is it sad that I chuckled at the thought of that?

Not recently, but before WWII and also soon after the Olympics barely went out of Europe.

FIFA World Cup Soccer and the Olympics back to back is also somewhat unlikely, to use your term, or at least people tend to put it forward sometimes as a reason why cities/countries would be passed over, but in reality it does happen: Germany '72 + '74, Mexico '68 + '70 and U.S.A. '94 + '96. So now Brazil too.
