I tried watching figure skating and I noticed that they changed the scoring system to the point where I have no clue what they hell is going on. I know it was problably because of that scandal of mis judging in one olympics but I only knew 6.0 5.9 5.8 etc etc.

Oh well I never really cared for the event.

Congrats on the Candian snowboarder winning Canada its second gold though.

Windex, for one thing, it's popular with women. It's a mix between sport and art and some people eat that shit up. I personally find it so over the top - borderline ridiculous. It's like sports theatre. I find it pretty entertaining actually.

I was watching it with my wife and we were both laughing our asses off at some of the outfits the skaters were wearing. Of course i can appreciate the athletic abilities of the skaters too, but i get my enjoyment from the cheezy sense of drama the performances are going for. I find it hilarious. Add the trash talking / mind games that i mentioned earlier by the Russian, and it's pure entertainment (cheese) as far as i'm concerned.

As for the judging, yeah i don't get it either. I never understood the old system at the same time, but i've been told that this new system is a way more fair way of judging the event. Like there's less emphasis on judging / artistic impression and more on actual execution of the skills which to me seems like the way all 'judged' sports should be.

I've watched more curling in the last two days than I have ever watched in my life, and it's actually relatively enjoyable. Women's curling has nothing on men's curling though, a lot more mistakes are made and not as many incredible shots.

There's a smoking hot broad on Switzerland's curling team. Carmen Schaefer I think her name was.

I love figure skating. And pair skating. Skating in general. As a non-skater, I think these guys and gals are super-talented.

what happened to owning the podium, Canada's getting shalaked...I guess they're renting out the podium
have no medal contenders in those sports where you can win multiple medals

Another Canadian made the podium yesterday in short track speed skating with silver. I guess Canada hasn't been winning left and right, but i'm fairly satisfied with the amount of top 3's we've seen so far. And i'm sure there's more to come.

Just looked it up, but the most they've ever won was 24 in Turin. I gather they should win around 20 this time around and that would be pretty respectable. I don't know if this was on radio or TV, but i think i remember hearing that a lot of Canada's medals would come later in the games anyways.

Here are some medal totals from past winter games:
1988 Calgary (host) 0 2 3 5
1992 Albertville 2 3 2 7
1994 Lillehammer 3 6 4 13
1998 Nagano 6 5 4 15
2002 Salt Lake City 7 3 7 17
2006 Turin 7 10 7 24

I was expecting Canada to get 24+, but things are starting slow
yeah, most medals are predicted to come late in hockey, curling, ski cross, some of the short track races and a couple other things

on ESPN they predicted Canada would win 3 medals by today and 15 after tomorrow
2010 Winter Olympics predictions: ESPN.com experts weigh in - ESPN

I think hockey and team sports should count for more than one medal, then Canada could be in contention

Having to hear the awful Olympic Anthem every five minutes is almost enough to make me want to stop watching the Olympics.

Is it driving anyone else crazy? Every lead out to commercial, every lead back in, every time they go to a different segment. For god sakes...please play something else once in awhile.

it's annoying, but i guess it could be worse.

the only thing that bothers me really are all the delays with the events. I understand that stuff - injuries - happen, and that the weather is pretty much out of peoples' hands, but these delays seems to be happening way too often.

as an aside, i seriously love watching the Olympics. I don't really get all excited leading up to the event, but once it starts, for two weeks i become a complete olympics whore. lol.

OK, I just want to say that I love that the Spanish figure skater is skating to the Pirates of the Carribean soundtrack. Making me very happy.

And that Patrick Chan skated to a medley from Phantom (I dorkily sang along to parts of it ... husband could only stare and shake his head ... you think he'd be used to this by now).

Loving the skating so far.

meh. I thought Plushenko got a bit robbed.

I personally hate Lysecek. I was pulling for Plushecnko, Johnny Weir and Daisuke. Not that Weir had much of a shot.... still i kinda like the dude. He reminds me of the little kid who gets beat up at school and picked on by bullies. Lysecek reminds me of a bully.

Good on Christine Zesbitt for her 1000m win. So far all of our Canadian medalists have carried themselves with the utmost class and have been very humble champions.

the Russian should have won but you never know with the judges
could be a political statement, favoritism
sports that depend 100% on judges are tricky like that and the scoring system is hard to understand
