Clara Hughes and the bobsledders were great to watch.

yeah totally.

The bobsled was super intense and down to the wire (as that sport always is). You see those two sleds go down? and the one German brakeswoman throw herself from the sled? crazy stuff. The Canadian teams showed some serious composure on their runs.

I also managed to catch most of the women's relay yesterday too. Short track relays are fucking bonkers. It's pretty shocking that you don't see more falls and mayhem on those exchanges. and yeah - it was touched on earlier, but i really don't understand why the Koreans got disqualified. While i didn't see all the laps of the race, i certainly didn't see what looked like a disqualifiable offense. The announcers also couldn't point one out.

Man... i LOVE the Olympics. I think i'm going to go into withdrawal next week.

one of the Koreans skates touched one of the Chinese to cause her to go off her line and slow down
short track skating looks like accidents waiting to happen, like NASCAR

VERY debatable decision IMO, Windex. I didn't see enough contact to disqualify a team from a gold medal.

the Chinese skater slowed down because of it so I guess that was enough
even if they overturn it they'll probably give Korea the gold and everyone else will still get to keep their medals

It always seems like the Koreans get into trouble in short track. Looks like they play dirty and one of the commentators said the same.

they didn't in this case DVS.

To me the Chinese girl was totally riding the Korean's bumper. She was too close and initiated the contact herself. It was a bogus decision.

I think DVS meant greatest Canadian olympian, but even if he meant olympian period, I think it would be tough to argue against it. WHen was the last time Michael Phelps won a medal in the winter olympics?

Yes I did mean Canadian Athlete. When you say Greatest Olympian Ever the debate would just get huge.

If that was the case I think I'd just go with Jesse Owens just because of sheer timing.

yeah... it was really marginal infraction. very harsh to lose gold over it.

almost like they were punishing these women for all the dirty shit that the koreans pulled throughout the competitions.

Well just like basketball. If you have a reputation for something sometimes they will call you on something that you didn't deserve getting. Watching a limited amount of short track all I saw were the Koreans continually pushing the envelope. It may be entertaining to watch but short track isn't a real sport in my eyes anyways.

In other news. Downhill Gold Medalist Lindsey Vonn is going to give her Gold Medal to President Obama

WOW

So Rochette got her medal (bronze), but it involves a bit of controversy. The American who was in 4th apparently skated well too and some thought should have jumped in the rankings. I didn't see the skates, but good for Joannie to get this good result. I'm sure this will be good for her in dealing with her mother's death.

Nicely done by the hockey ladies who took care of business as expected.
Too bad about the Canuck aerialists.

Apparently the hockey girls are getting in trouble over excessive celebrations on the ice after their win, or so i heard on the radio this morning. They returned to the ice afterwards with champagne and cigars or something. I don't see the big deal myself, but i guess it was a no-no. I heard that one of the girls is underage though.

Nagasu did skate well last night but her short program not as well done as Rochette. Rochette skated very well in the short program and beautifully and expressively (except for a few wobbles at the beginning) in the free skate and deserved the bronze. Realistically, Nagasu had a slim chance to medal ... but people will complain and belittle and be mean and nasty ... sucks that this is what the world is becoming.

We got lots of shorttrack tonight. Charles Hamelin is going in the 500 i believe. It would be nice if he didn't completely fail at these Olympics.

Also some snowboard and bobsled too and long track team pursuits (on top of the big hockey semi).

Can someone please tell me how the team long track speed skating events work?

I don't understand what the big deal was with the Canadian women celebrating. Did the IOC investigate in 2002 when the American women hockey team laid the Canadian flag on the floor of their dressing room and walked all over it in their skates?

Good on the Canadian women.

We all know Canada has problems with the future lines drawn on Arctic maps and we all know Canada lives in the shadow of its larger neighbour to the south. The abject cruelty shown by Canadian soldiers in international conflicts is scantily referred to, as indeed is the utter incapacity of this [country] to host a major international event, due to its inferiority complex, born of a trauma being the skinny and weakling bro to a beefy United States and a colonial outpost to the United Kingdom, whose Queen smiles happily from Canadian postage stamps.

Maybe it is this which makes the Canadians so … retentive, or cowardly. So it is not exactly a huge surprise to have international skating experts from the four corners of the Earth criticising the decision to award the Men’s figure skating Gold medal to the US athlete Evan [Lysacek] over the reigning Olympic Champion Evgeny Plushenko, whose superior performance was inexplicably ignored.
