too bad Canada lost
I wish we could have had a full strength side

pretty good for having a minor league pitcher vs a top MLB pitcher

Okay, so I was at the games yesterday (and the rest of them too). Some funny heckling going on, but then there were these guys who wanted to be cool and tried to top the other guys, but they were flat out embarrassing. People didn't even understand their jokes.

In the Venezuela vs. Italy game, HILARIOUS situation where one dude just got all over Victor Zambrano in the bullpen, the dude wasn't even pitching. Guy was all over him, saying he was going to be in 'A' ball this year if he was lucky, etc., but the real juice was when he said, "The Jays took Tomo Ohka over you! TOMO FUCKING OHKA!!!" Then for an inning solid, he just chanted "TO-MO" until Zambrano got pissed off and went to the other side where he couldn't be seen. Good times. USA vs. Venezuela tonight.

were there a lot of people cheering for Italy

I heard Bargs thru the first pitch at the Italy game

Bargs threw a laser before the first Italy game. Not a bad toss actually.

I am now not going to any more games. Long story, but I ended up giving my tickets for tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday away.

Sometimes life just sucks.

Nope. But I wasn't there tonight. I saw the Italy vs. Venezuela game, which was a snorefest. Anyway, Italy beat Canada tonight and that means Canada is out, which they should be, because if you can't beat Italy, you have NO BUSINESS being in the Classic. Embarrassing.

Canada lost b/c Don Cherry threw out the first pitch

next time we need some of the MLB pitchers to play, but Aumont is going to be a star

I don't think Canada lost because Cherry threw out the first pitch. Canada lost because they were looking ahead at a match with Venezuela instead of focusing on the task at hand.

Pitchers aren't reporting to play because they don't want to be hurt for the upcoming season. As for Aumont, yeah, he's destined to be a star - being selected 11th overall in a draft will do that. However, you don't know what the future holds - Adam Loewen was supposed to be a star and he fell off.

Here's the thing about double elimination tournaments. Even at the Ontario Senior A Eliminations, it is a double elimination setup. You HAVE to get your ace in either game 1 or 2. There are two ways of thinking on it. If you throw your ace in game 1, you hope to get up a game and then if you lose game 2, you might be able to get an inning or two out of your ace again if absolutely necessary in game 3. The other method of thinking is that you leave your ace for game 2, so just in case you lose game 1, you still have your stopper to go to in game 2. You then manage the rest of the way and possibly share innings depending on how long the tournament is.

Team Canada's thinking? Absolutely mystifying. Leave your best pitcher on the bench for game 1 and game 2 for a game 3 that might not arrive. Just for that and that alone, I would can Ernie Whitt.

The tournament sucks

badly scheduled
half the team doesn't show up
If u have a bad game your out but when you play in the season you get 4 game sets against a team

The achillies heel of the DR was supposed to be pitching, but the pitching wasnt that bad - for the most part, it was the team that overlooked the competition and figured that it would make it to the next round based strictly on their star talent.

All things considered, I still find the tournament interesting. Admitted, I am a complete baseball junkie, but I think they have made great progress from the first time around. Anyway, the DR should not be losing to the Netherlands twice. Baseball is the kind of sport where that may happen once if a pitcher has a bad outing or something, but for it to happen twice is inexcusable.
