Contest Ideas?

Hey guys,I'd like to run some type of contest or pool here next season. Kind of like the one for those who can remember that I think Mike_TO or teabags did at the ESPN boards years ago. Placing all the Eastern Conference teams where you think they'll end up at the end of the regular season and using some type of point system for those rankings. I can't really remember exactly how they did that, but something along those lines.

Anyone interested or think they can come up with a better idea?

prediction is so random. i'm not against your idea at all doc, but i'd rather see a contest based on the board awards - most valuable poster, rookie of the year, etc. - that would have real rewards (t-shirts, hats, whatever) for the winners. if we all knew that this was in place as the season started, i think it would encourage quality posts and an atmosphere of congeniality, participation and excellence. especially if everyone gets a chance to vote on the winners. it's shared responsibility and shared fun. to me, all of these qualities are what this board was all about when we all came here, and a contest like that would go a long way to support and encourage that ideal as opposed to rewarding baseless predictions and much of the annoying young-kid-stuff.

Thanks 'trane and that's certainly something to keep in mind.

I'm just trying to find fun things to encorporate in the forum this fall once the season begins.

Anyone else who has some ideas, don't hesitate to share them.

An RF fantasy league would be cool if we got thirty teams or so.

Then you really have to be good trying to fill your roster with hidden gems.

Yeah, only problem with that is that people lose interest very fast and then by the end there's like 2 or 3 people that stuck with it the whole time. I'd do it though.

I would too.

Or you could just run a Survivor type contest, promise a prize to the winner, get his mailing address and then never send anything.

Meh, that might be something we can do after next season. Start with a clean slate and think of some RF awards at the end of next season.

I'll try and come up with something closer to the start of the season as well set up a Yahoo or NBA.com fantasy pool for people to participate in.

Keep in mind that its completely free and no I won't be giving away any prizes to the winners. Purely for bragging rights. Before anyone asks we don't make any profit here, so it would be tough for us to give away prizes coming from our own wallets.
