The second annual report on the city's prosperity, released Monday, includes a global survey of transit and congestion in 19 major cities. Toronto came last in transit.

According to the report, Toronto commuters spend an average of least 80 minutes a day, roundtrip, which is longer than commuters spend in London, New York and Los Angeles.

Also, the report found that 70 per cent of Torontonians drive to work. The city came in last compared to other major cities such as New York where 60 per cent drive to work, 40 per cent in London, and 25 per cent in Paris.

The report suggests the reasons for Toronto's traffic issues are urban sprawl and decades of under-investment in public transit. Mars said the province's decision to delay $4 billion in public transit funding ensures the problem will only get worse.

The Mcguinty pull out of improving Toronto's Transit was bad. However; I really don't think street cars help that much. I personally think you have to go underground to help congestion but thats just my take. No modern city uses ground level Light Rail anyways. Look at the cluster fuck what is St. Clair Ave. now.

Your take would be correct. Toronto's subway system is severely lacking.

Street cars fuck up traffic more then anything, period! Go downtown and see what streetcars do to traffic congestion, especially during rush hour...it's rather pathetic and frustrating.

Keep what is existing. The TTC is a pure joke and has an infrastructure suited for a city of maybe 2 million people. What is worst is these politicians can't even run what is existing efficiently. Like really pay 6 figures to a guy to collect bus fare?? Geez they don't even do that in Motnreal

PURE JOKE
