Side effects of the Morning After pill are generally GI-related -- so things like nausea and vomiting are v.common and, in some women, dizziness can be experienced. Aside from those side effects, the major thing that the MAP does to a woman is disrupt her menstrual cycle since the MAP plays around with the hormonal balance in a woman's body. The hormone levels return to normal values a few days later, but the MAP is pretty effective (nothing is ever 100%) since it can:

[a] prevent ovulation (the releasing of the egg by the ovaries) thereby preventing the fertilization of the egg by the sperm (since sperm can only survive for 3 days)

[b] prevent implantation of the fertlized egg in the uterus -- the uterus is where the fertilized egg gets all its nutrition in order to grow and, by preventing implantation, the egg dies. It's essentially a chemically-induced abortion.

And that is the science lesson for today.
