Seeing two guys all over each other, beating one another to a bloody pulp and shoving their ass/balls in each others faces isn't my thing i guess. To each his/her own.

I think fighting is part of the game and ingrained in it, i would hate to see it go, call me a barbarian or w/e, but look up the stats on boarding and high sticks to the head, there we WAY less of these incidents when you knew somebody would knock your teeth in if you cheap shotted a player, and stars were protected, now ppl take cheap shots at stars because of the instigator rule which is the worse rule in hockey. I like the idea of players policing themselves in terms of cheap shots and running star players, again, call me a barbarian.

Also, the unwritten rule is you never fight somebody that isnt fighting back, so its not like you are forced to fight, you dont wanna fight, then dont, step the hell outta the way and let the ppl that do that kinda thing do it, alot of fans love it and in some cases it lets the steam out so worse things dont happen.

Staged fighting shouldn't be in hockey... it has nothing to do with the game... hockey bullies are all big pussies... if they want to fight for real they should try boxing or mma... they are worst then professional wrestlers.

It maybe be but it's real fighting... they don't pretend to be anything else... imagine if after 2nd round UFC guys lace it up and skate for a minute or two.

The same way skating doesn't belong in mma... fighting doesn't belong in hockey... plain & simple.

Isn't there a rule in the NHL that states if someone fights 3 times in a game (anything more than twice) and you get a 1 game suspension? If so that is beyond stupid. It's allowed, but only to a certain extent.

See and there's the problem. It's ingrained because we want it to be ingrained. One simply needs to look at the skilled players in Europe to see that this ideology is a false ideology.

The reason it will never be banned because it's a visceral act and evokes a response from individuals. What's worst is we glorify the act in the game with our heroes (see, Domi, Tie) and believe thse men should be honoured. Meanwhile, in Europe you see tough hockey but no ridiculous acts such as this and the actual game is showcased.

Lastly, it will never leave. The fan base enjoys it but don't really understand why they enjoy it.

I'd leave it in for now, but make it a match penalty like the playoffs.

I played AA growing up and some of the fights I witnessed (I was a goalie) were completely ridiculous. If anything, it really needs to first be eliminated at the minor level, because there are way too many "mismatches." The suspensions given out at the minor level (unless it has changed since I played...which was a long time ago) were a joke, so players just got used to it and then it grew from there. Guys had to tape their cages shut.

As far as the NHL goes, there are really three kinds of fights. The one where two dudes just want to go; the payback/protection fight (aka the "Semenko"); and the "light a fire" fight, where a coach needs a guy to get some team energy going. If the refs and the league properly enforce the rules and eliminate some of the teams (like Phoenix), two of those three kinds of fights might completely disappear.

It's never going to disappear completely, fights happen in every sport, but even I'm getting tired of it.

I'll always remember when I was playing minor league hockey in grade 5. We got this new addition to our team mid-season. This kid was already borderline 6 feet. A complete monster.

Anyways, he could hardly skate, and some redneck on the other team who was small for his age, like 4 foot something, with a rat-tail, apparently made a racist remark. On the bench we notice that their is commotion at the other end of the rink, this new guy was on his knees, looking eye to eye with the little skid, one hand grabbing the other kid by the back of the head, the other hand just wailing on him, throwing haymaker after haymaker.

That was the only game he played for us that year, but it's one of the only memories I have from minor league hockey.

lol, w/e, it's how it is and how it will be, the bleeding hearts cant take all the fun outta life, i see no problem if two grown men want to throw down in a sport unlike any other, i say entertain us, do it, its exciting to most of the population, im sorry if you all are above us and have the right to look down on ppl enjoying a fight, it must be nice to always take the moral high ground and look down upon the peons.
