Default Sex Changes

I was strolling through the Sports Articles on the Sun's website and I came across an interesting story about a former Sports Columnist who got a sex change.

New life after sex change | Other Sports | Sports | Toronto Sun

And I was just wondering what your thoughts are on sex changes. What do you think about sex changes? Personally, if I knew a guy who had a sex change, it would be hard for me to get used to calling him a "her"

I live by a pretty simply motto in life.

Whatever Works.

It applies here.

well, i'd hope people are a little more certain than that if they decide to undergo a procedure like this, but the sentiment is about right...

and i'm not quite willing to say that gender is an either/or kind of thing.

I've met many people going through sex changes, or hoping to one day make the change.

It can be sad, seeing how unhappy they are being the gender they were born into. something most of us will likely never quite understand. Some stories I've been told could break your heart.

So yeah, like they said above.... you have to do what makes you happy. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, go for it. Be who you are, and you FEEL you really are.

Well yeah, obviously a procedure like that would take a lot of consideration.

Windex has a point. It would be hard for a father to to accept that his son wanted to be a woman so much that he actually had an operation done to do so.

i beg to differ. given that i work directly with people that have gone through procedures like this, i have a fair bit of familiarity with the topic.

and if my bro decides to become a women and it makes him happy, then i'm all for it. honestly dude, some people have moved past that kind of worry. not all, and that's their right as well, but i don't see why you have to paint everyone with that kind of brush.

I'm not sure that there is a line of reasoning I could bring forth either for or against sex changes. Frankly, I don't see why anyone would react negatively to it.

I hope someone above was actually referencing this movie.

Just throwing this out there since you guys are comfortable with sex changes. How would you feel if you were going out with somebody and found out they were actually the opposite sex, and had gone through a sex change

I absolutely respect people doing it. Whatever makes you happy. If it happends in my family I would accept it for sure. That said, some people have said here "accept who you are". Maybe people should accept who they are instead of going through a painful and destructive operation. You can do whatever you want to your body, you are still a man/woman. Those changes are just external. They cant have children, they wont have the (menopause?), they have man muscles, testosterone, hands, hair. You are born one genre, no operation can change that.
Lets say you meet a teenager that likes men, but he is afraid to come out, you would not tell him - No, you should like women, its easier - I feel the same way about sex change. If someone told me. I feel like a woman. I would tell him. Accept who you are, and thats a man. But again, if someone I know did it I would respect it.

As open and understanding as I think I am, I'm fairly certain would have a difficult time if it was my son. Me and my kid have a wonderful relationship and while it involves much more than the matter of his gender, that is part of it - the father/son, two boys dynamic. So, I definitely feel I'd be losing something I cherish. It may not be the most important thing, but it is something, and I don't know exactly how I'd come to terms with that.

I never understood why people get upset when someone else chooses to do something that makes them happy and doesn't hurt anyone else.

This includes homosexuality and transgendered people.

People having problems with serious drugs, I can understand. It has the potential to kill you and make you desperate for cash to score more drugs. Which leads to stealing and sometimes it gets violent.

But protesting against homosexuality or transgendered people. Just never made sense to me. Live and let live.

Agree 1000%. Who cares what others do in their life. Like you said if that makes them happy then so be it as long as its not causing harm to anyone else.

It would be great if everyone felt this way. Sadly, there will always be people who find it unnatural and/or take their supposed "moral high ground" on the issue. Someone, somewhere will always misunderstand the way things are when considering concepts of sex changes and homosexuality.

I saw a program not too long ago about teens who have gone through the procedure (or want to).... and I think that THAT is where things start getting tough.

I couldn't imagine being a parent and having my 12-yr old son tell me that he wants to undergo "transgender therapy" so that he won't ever have to go through puberty.

I think that there's a pretty famous German pop star who's about 16 now who went through this (used to be a boy)... can't recall her name though.

I have to say i'm in awe of people that go through what's needed to go through physically, emotionally and having to face judgement and possible rejection from family members and peers. I give them alot of credit for the courage to be themselves and everyone else be damned.
