He should be allowed to finish out his term, he was fairly elected by the citizens of Toronto.

This was unfair and unprecedented. What the fuck is next?
they didn't kick him out of office, they stripped him of his budget and some of his responsibilities, particularly in terms of emergency situations and committee memberships. and they did it because he is clearly and obviously unfit to lead, and with every misstep he brings further ridicule an condemnation upon himself, city hall, and the city as a whole.

what is next is for the province to re-write the toronto act to include the possibility of removing someone who is making a mockery of the institution. today's council meeting was a gong show.

Legally what they did was similar to something a dicktatorship would do.

Citizens votes just ignored.

This guy admits to driving drunk, buying and smoking crack cocaine while in office, talks about eating pussy in public and people still want him in office to finish his term? And to top it all off one of his only allies last week went on TV after some of his ridiculous comments and said that he was slurring his words, was clearly on something and that he should take a leave.

I think some people in this city have checked their brains at the door.

He pissed those votes away, or should I say smoked and snorted them away. This is a mayor that went around town giving voters the finger while being called out about texting and driving. Such amazing respect for the office he holds. He and his brother are nothing but bullies and need to GTFO!

He's been neutered......

There should be a way to impeach a sitting mayor when they admit to illegal activity and piss on the office they hold. At this point he is almost daring them to get him out of there and is essentially behaving poorly, not seeming to give a shit what anyone thinks of him. The guy has no class, and neither does his brother.

Watching them today yelling at the public, some of which probably voted for his fat ass made me sick. These two walking around side by side causing havoc........absolute disgrace to this city. Trying to deflect attention and ask council to take drug tests, acting like children. Can't wait until these two fuckheads are gone.

How there is anyone left in this city that wants him to stay another year in office is beyond me. Probably for their own selfish reasons because they think he's saved them a few bucks. To hell with his well being, the cities reputation......he's saved me some dough.

And he's saying he wants to take people to court for what they said to police while being interviewed........does he realize that can't happen?

i can respect this post even though i don't agree with the sentiment. I mean afterall you're asking a good question.

I think the issue of 'unprecedence' (if that is a word) goes the other way as well. Ford has admitted to illegal acts and even though he hasn't been charged he has admitted to breaking the law. And even that aside his behaviors and his actions have been just plain unnacceptible. You can't really act a certain way in a place of work and expect everything to be normal. The fact that his place of work is city hall and he is technically the most important person there gives him more of a responsibility to act a certain way and to conduct himself responsibly.

So because of that i totally agree with the recent events that have taken away much of his power and i hope more is done. It's like you said this is unprecedented... but if you ask me this whole thing has been enough of a disaster that it is setting a precendence.

Thug seriously, stop parroting the Ford talking points. You need to have a come to Jesus moment. Speaking of which, the sanctimony he is now displaying makes me feel sick and dirty for having been the least bit concerned about this guy.

The power lies with the council. He did not get his powers from the voters. He got hos title from the voters, and that remains. It is the council that gives him his powers, and as a last resort, they took them away. There was nobody that wanted to be on his executive. This was the best way to keep things functional. The whole term has been about trying to function with this ass having nothing to offer.

Good, in capable hands dictatorships most often lead to better ways of life.

The flaw is simply people are too power hungry to make it work.

No, not at all similar to be honest with you. In fact, it's more similar to what a true democratic process would do imo.

I think the quotes made earlier in the year of the Ford saying the mayor should have veto power over council (or something to that effect) is far closer to the notion of dictatorship.

Regardless, this is a man who is addicted to the attention right now. You can see it in all of his actions and stunts. On top of that, he's addicted to the title of office of the mayor. You can hear it in his comments to the press.

I can't believe all this is for real. He has better approval ratings now? Toronto is Italy 2.0. Even worse!

Last time I saw anything on polls they showed a mock election poll had him 3rd behind Olivia Chow (37%), someone else at 25% and he was looking at 20% of the votes. Can't see him winning an election.

I've also read that his approval rating is around 40%, but I seriously don't buy that. Must have been a seriously small sample size. I would have to think his approval rating is around 20-30%. Just a guess though.

Mayor Rob Ford's approval rating ticks upward with news of crack video | Toronto Star

Maybe this was before the latest incidents. Still. Insane.

I've talked to a lot of younger people who firmly believe that he was doing a decent job as mayor and his only problems are his personal life and the media bullying him. I can see that bumping his approval rating and even helping his reelection. Although i dont think he has a chance of being reelected.

He wasn't doing any kind of a decent job as a mayor, a human being, or a liar. He is a reality tv show. If people want to vote for that then maybe we can just become the next Detroit.

You mean the same media that he repeatedly bullied and argued against whenever they questioned him on his policies/politics?

I'd like to know who these young people are....

Hi Raptors Forum...long time no talk....me here...Rob Ford voter.

No doubt he needs to go.

I do however have a problem with what council did. I am not going to go as far as to say "dictatorship" that's kind of silly but it does open the door to actions I am not totally comfortable with on either side of the aisle.

There appears to me to be a pretty simple solution. Call an election, I think if council has a HUGE majority they should have the power to do that.

Rob Ford has many problems not the least of which is not following through on the campaign promises that made me vote for him. Council has its own problems though with convicted felons casting a vote of moral consequence. The whole thing has been completely embarrassing to the city but the entire council takes some blame and have been pretty childish about the whole thing.

Finally to becoming the next "Detroit", well that's a gross simplification, and grants far to much power to what amounts to 1 vote on council. Actually the downfall of Detriot had nothing really to do with its Mayor (yes they were compounded by him for sure), a closer example to Detroit would be the billion or so that our province stole, but lets not let facts get in the way.

Miss me?

I'm curious, what part of the process and changes council enacted aren't you comfortable with? Just interested....

Just a guess, but it sounds like the fact that they've stripped him of his powers and what precedence that creates. For some reason that bothers some.
