1.Harper's goal, in a sense, is to turn canada into the 51s't state of america can you explain this please "in a sense"?

in a sense as in attempting to turn the canadian system into something similar to the americans. i by no way was implying in a literal sense but rather how harpers conservatives, if given majority, will show their true colours which are to the right of the political spectrum, closer to the democrats and republicans of the states rather than where the majority of the canadian population resides, in the centre of the spectrum.

2.but aside from the people sitting on wall street businesses getting paid millions/year in bonuses, who there is truly happy? This is garbage, first, if it is such a bad place why does the majority of the world in poor, and war torn countries want to move there and secondly, the people on "Wall Street" as you call them have probably been the least happy people over the last 5 years. This statement is bunk, sensationalist.

as bill or trane pointed out, your point does not validate the situation in the states. if you were to ask an out of the reach farmer in a third world country in the world, surely they would know more about the states than canada since the states have done such a commendable job becoming the super power of the world in the last century. yes the states went through a horrid recession, and are just seeming to be climbing out of it(partly due to the efforts of the decomcrats), and some on wall street suffered. but as mentioned above, there were many more middle class-lower class citizens who suffered than upper class. wall street was offered a 700 something billion dollar bailout(correct me if im wrong but i believe it was near that number) where businesses cleaned their crap up while people lost their homes, jobs, etc. yes, people like madoff were finally brought to justice, but not after spending years living the good life, off of other peoples fortunes. i for one dont want a system similar to that running in canada.

3.this brings it back to the discussion of communism vs. capitalism where the way i see it, a good mix of both can produce a well of country errr, not possible. Well I guess it could be, do you mean Communism or communism?....
im not sure which but i was referring to the idea of sharing the wealth, not to a point of corruption, but one which sets a reasonable minimum for all citizens.

keep harper in power, let him show how conservative he is when the taxpayer backed CHMC asks for 500 plus billion to pay for all the reckless canadian mortgages they insured so the banks could further profit without taking any risk. smart move by the real criminals, i don't even know how 30 million people will cover the tab(probably a firesale on our assets)

people just can't seem to learn any thing from other countries one of which we're connected to. Canadians now have more personal debt to disposable income than americans do, morons falling for the same trap

and wall/baystreet is laughing their ass off, the big boys are gaming you all as is anyone who's good in the markets. how many goldman sachs affiliated central bankers and alltime highs in commodities while unemployment is still high do you need before people pull their head out of their ass and learn whats going on? nope instead it looks like people are more in tune to becoming slaves and taking equity out on that overpriced house to further in debt themselves because they don't know any better

astonishing.

Quote:
Jack Layton has jumped ahead of Stephen Harper in the Nanos Research leadership index – indicating that the NDP Leader will be able to drive home his party’s advantage in the closing days of the federal election campaign.

Mr. Layton’s numbers have soared to such an extent that his presence will further boost NDP support, the so-called coattail effect, said Nik Nanos, president and CEO of the polling firm. Although his coattails are longest in Quebec, where the rise in his leadership score is most pronounced, Mr. Layton will be able to buoy his party’s performance across the country, Mr. Nanos said.
Quote:
For the Conservatives, there is also cause for worry. Mr. Layton has moved ahead of Mr. Harper on the leadership front, a major shift from the start of the campaign. “This is the first time anyone has even come close to Stephen Harper,” Mr. Nanos said.

The pollster said he considers the leadership index to be an advance indication of possible shifts in party support, noting that Mr. Layton moved ahead of Mr. Ignatieff on the leadership front about a week before NDP poll numbers began to shoot upward. The latest rise in Mr. Layton’s numbers come as polls indicate the NDP is starting to whittle down the consistent lead the Conservatives have had since the writ was dropped.

I will never vote because my/your vote doesn't really matter. The system needs to change. Better systems do exist:
Like George Carlin once said, our country has been bought and paid for very long time ago by the huge corporations and lobbyists. We DO NOT have any REAL choices.

Elections and politicians are in place in order to give you an ILLUSION that you have a freedom of choice. "My mind doesn't work that way. I got this real moron thing I do, it's called THINKING!"

This is kind of interesting.

Give your opinions on various topics, and it will tell you which political party most resemble your viewpoint.

There were calls made telling people that their polling stations had changed location. The attempts at suppressing the vote, from phone banks traced to North Dakota throughout the campaign, is yet another sign of Rovian tactics, to go along with the flagpin, the voter database, the negative ads, and telling "ethnic" voters who view gay rights and abortion differently than the mainstream, to "vote their values". It's brutal. I was extremely happy when it backfired on Harris eventually, but now we have it again in spades with our Mayor and Prime Minister. These guys are in it for the long haul, and they are not in it for us, which makes their whole attack on Ignatieff ironic.
