Just bringing this out...

Isn't posting up pictures of half-naked women and discussing their physical appearance a bit inappropriate?

Over the past few months the discussions regarding these 'supermodels' have only become more and more meticulous. I understand that this is a basketball forum and the majority of the members in this forum are males (including myself). But does this really make it okay to critique women and put such a great emphasis on outward appearance?
Some comments were pretty interesting and valid, like the discussion of what a supermodel actually is... Unfortunately though, several other posts just blatantly degrade women.

A solution, IMO, would be to either eliminate these photographs that are posted on a daily basis OR post pictures of men in the same manner- lets not forget, there are members in this forum that are females! The administrators do a great job of keeping the forum under firm control; by not allowing discrimination and keeping discussions appropriate. But the comments I've read in some of these ‘Daily Raptors Dish’ threads are extremely disrespectful and absurd.

I didn't post this to take a shot at anyone... but I'm pretty sure that I am not the only person that feels this way.

there is an 'appreciation of male beauty' thread on this site too. a simple search would have found that kuzzy.

and as to whether superficial critique of appearance is warranted - if a woman or a man is going to be in the business of posing for pictures and having them posted in newspapers and online, she or he has opened him or herself up to exactly those critiques. if you don't like it, no one is telling you to open the thread.

feel free to post all the pics of men you want in the appreciation of male beauty thread. you re welcome to have all the conversation you wish with whomever chooses to engage in that thread.

I do think Kuzzy makes a valid point though.

While I agree, that entering into that field one is subjected to ridicule, it does become quite absurd when they're outright mocked or called over weight etc.

I think it has to do moreso with people who are just screen names critiquing. When my friends critique a girl I can critique them too because well, I see them physically and it becomes far more of a joke eventually. Here, it becomes something different. I don't physically see everyone and the comments here take on a different tone, at least for myself.

I personally stay out of the threads because I know if something happens there are other mods in there, but right now, I agree with Kuzzy.

I don;t even think women would get irked because of this ....except the feminist and stuff..I mean i think girls would just roll there eyes and call us pigs if anything but thats about it.

The women in the the photos put themselves up for it and i would say a lot of them like the attention.

They pose for the pictures and put themselves out there to be critisized or adored, both come with the territory. Same goes for male models, women critisize or admire as much as men do about women. If a woman on here went in the male beauty appreciation thread and called a guy fat or ugly would anyone here be offended? Nope, not in the least. We all call it as we see it, and we all see it differently.

Excuse my ignorance Trane, I did not know there was a thread of men posing nude.
I view the thread 'Daily Raptors Dish' to follow the raptors- not to view discussions regarding the physical appearance of these women.
So maybe just MAYBE, these pictures belong elsewhere, in another thread perhaps.
Correct me if im wrong, the thread is titled 'Daily Raptors Dish' and not 'Daily Babe'.

It's not about me needing to view men on this forum. If that was my concern, I could easily fulfill the need on other sites.
It just doesn't make sense to me, to post pictures of these women on a thread titled the 'Daily Raptors Dish'... of JUST women.
I guess they do take pictures like that knowing there will be critics. But maybe there should be another thread for these photos, like there is another thread for just photos of nude men.

I think over time, on a daily basis, if we put photos of 'regular' men up and we for an extended period of time, heard the complaints of women judging 'regular' men, I'd guarantee at least a few men on here would be bothered. It's quite easy to say I wouldn't be offended because for the most part, we're not subjected to it.

However, I do think you missed my point.

Again, I stay out of those threads for a reason. Not all people look the same and some of the comments are debasing. And while, these girls (because well the majority are between 18-23) are just that, girls, may be naive or just need the money, it's quite sad that we can simply throw out a comment without caring. That's fine and really, this is the reason why I stay out of this debate for the most part. It's going against what the majority here feel is right. So, really, whatever.
