gee that's too bad you feel this way, but i'm pretty sure Natives would feel differently than you and they are a pretty important part of what makes up this country.

As for the whole ceremony revolving around it, i'm just gonna have to say that you are wrong. It was like 30 minutes at the beginning and then the native dancers just stayed on the floor for the parade of nations - but were more in the background than anything else. and that was it. Sorry you had to sit through that!

Meh, I guess I'm just biased from living by a Native reserve.
Sorry if I offended you fancylad or 'trane, just voicing my opinion.

bah, this kind of thing really grinds my gears. should i judge all white people based on the little hick town near my cottage? or maybe all black people from lawrence heights near where i work? - it's just my opinion.......

I'm not going to get into this.

Sorry for anything offensive I may have posted. I was just saying that I didn't feel the native outlook of the ceremony represented the country to well. It is my opinion, and I'd like to leave it at that.

nah that's fine christopha. You can have an opinion and i will respect it, but all i can say is that Natives have been the most fucked over people in this country. The reason their culture/way of life is in such shambles now is because the government has tired to completely destroy their culture. And they were pretty successful for years. Only recently does it look like the government is trying to right their wrongs - although the damage that has been done can never be erased.

I can see you there. They have all but lost their old way of life, and people in my town are too hard on them sometimes. When the English and whoever else migrated to Canada, they obliterated their culture, and it is our fault for their way of life being in shambles as you said. This is the reason why I believe some of the ceremonies should have revolved around native culture, I just wanted to see some of it revolved around my culture too haha. I probably stopped watching the ceremonies too early also, so I guess my opinion isn't a great one :).

i'm with christopha thinking the concentration of the opening ceremony gives a false representation of canada. if anything, having the worlds cultures together gives the proper representation of this country, how it was built and what it has become. shamefully, the natives were pushed aside when this country took it's identity. i get the reason it was done, though.

one that note, shane koyczan represented us well.
