Seriously, It was annoying before, but now its just ridiculous. If I see another artist/athlete/famous person on TV saying "we are going to be able to move foward", "change is comming", "we can change the world" my head may explode.

Spending 150 million dollars on an inaguration (and in the middle of an economic crisis). Mr. Bush, the man we all hate spended 43 million. This "progressist" sure love to spend money in awesome ways.

BTW how many more people will make a profit out of MLK. He is a product now.

Any thoughs on this?

Yea I know. He's copying everything Lincoln does from his train ride to the food the serve at an inauguration party. I'm getting sick of the word 'change' but I hope he succeeds at his job and that he leaves the country and the world in a better condition than he received it.

it's good for the times. obama's got everyone saying 'change is coming' so everyone is acceptable to it. i hope he stands by his game plan. they deserve it.

Yeah, and about $120 million of that is on security alone.

My only gripe is the fanfare this is receiving and that it's essentially setting him up for failure. He's already mentioned that he won't be able to follow through on all of his promises.

Again, I'd love to hear some sort of a plan. The US right now is fucked economically speaking and it's going to still get worst. It's an over-extended empire and how he decides to cope with it all will be interesting.

its exactly what the US needs.
so im all for it.
they are currently sitting at one of the worst times (economically) that they have ever faced as a country.
they need something like this to get their minds off their problems... 'change' is what they need, and Obama is definitely the leader to do it.

so they will pump the crap outta that word for the next few years.

My labmate has a big problem with Obama, and is already blasting him for saying that he "wont shut down Guantanamo" (her words). What she failed to mention was that he said (paraphrasing and I might be misremembering so let me know) that he is unlikely to shut it down in the FIRST 100 DAYS OF HIS PRESIDENCY. To which labmate replied, "Well, he shouldn't have said that he would in the first place."

Right, because it's just so easy to shut down a detention centre that it can get done in a matter of days - That girl angers me sometimes.

Hahaha.....

Guantanamo has to be shut down, however, I would love to see some full disclosure on what occurred there really.

I like what he's done with his cabinent personally, however, and this could be due to my own ignorance and I'd love if someone could help me on this, but as the conflict in Israel grew and even when Russia basically told the Ukraine to fuck off, I'd like to see at least one leader, Bush or Obama, come out and say something. It's like everyone stfu all of a sudden and had nothing to say.

Also, I'm curious to see if Obama will raise taxes to help him fund some of his principles. He's going to have to be real careful.

Oh I agree - Guantanamo HAS to be shut down, but (and this is what I am trying to tell Idiot Labmate) shutting down that place is going to take some time. Ugh she's infuriating.

I'm curious to see if Obama will go ahead and raise taxes for people making over $200K, like he promised he would do. It's going to be really interesting.

On the subject of Israel, I will continue to stay mum. I am a Muslim via my father, and I would like to think of myself as a fairly level-headed, non-biased person - I have my own opinions on the matter of Israel and Palestine, but those opinions are not things that I would like to bring up in a public forum.

Obama is smart, he knows he cant deliver on everything, he just needs to do a couple major things in his 1st term to garner a solid run again. I think getting out of Iraq will be his biggest goal in his 1st term.

Agree with that. The U.S. needs to get out of Iraq ASAP. Again, it's not something that can happen overnight for sure, but that plan needs to be given some serious thought.

While I agree that the US needs to leave Iraq, my concern is, would it destabilize the state to the point we would witness another South Vietnamese collapse? There's not a doubt in my mind that Iraq right now is nothing but a puppet state, but if leaving now, would destabilize the state and consequently the region, then he's going to have to ask himself some deep questions.

At the risk of backlash, I am not digging the tie in with MLK's birthday.

MLK's dream was NOT that African Americans were in power. His dream was that ALL races were treated equal.

I fear the first time Obama makes a decision that favours a non-black tender will start the cries of "I thought you were on our side??"

We are in for some interesting times.

Balck, white, big whoop, I think everyone will see, that once the fairy dust blows away, and it's time to get to work, that the US is still mired in debt, has a collapsing economy, and is still involved in a Myriad of useless conflicts world wide that won't be easy to just back out of.

You know the whole Black President thing is nice, and the symbol it provides for racial equality is nice too, but to be honest, Obama is the whitest balckj guy I have ever seen, and Chris fucking Rock could have run against McCain after the bUsh debacle and won. Tlking the big talk and shooting fish in a barrel is one thing, walking the walk will be the part that impresses me.

I'm 100% in support of the guy, but I think the hangover from the Bush administration is gonna be massive, as North American we need to be positive and we ned to look forward, but lets not get ahead of ourselves, the next few years are going to be hell.
