I'm 100% in support of the guy, but I think the hangover from the Bush administration is gonna be massive, as North American we need to be positive and we ned to look forward, but lets not get ahead of ourselves, the next few years are going to be hell.

However, I'd argue that Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice were whiter than me

Barack has smarts, something Bush never had. Also I might be wrong here but I heard his cabinet is filled with highly reputable people who can and will get the job done. This guy will bring change...I hope.

It's kind of weird all this 1st Black Prez stuff, it's like alot of ppl totally ignore the fact he is half white. In fact i would dare say being raised by his white family, culturally he is more white then black. It's like Russell Peters being Indian, but when he went to India he was like damn, im Canadian. I dont care either way i think he will be a great president.

It's like everyone stfu all of a sudden and had nothing to say.

Also, I'm curious to see if Obama will raise taxes to help him fund some of his principles. He's going to have to be real careful.
Head of the CIA Panetta is a stupid choice. Attorney General Holder, stupid choice. The rest of his picks are pretty solid though

Russia has cut off the gas to Ukraine for the past 4 years during the Winter I'm surprised they didn't see this coming. There's a monopoly, Gazprom controls the gas going to Ukraine.

I'm curious to see if Obama will go ahead and raise taxes for people making over $200K, like he promised he would do. It's going to be really interesting.

On the subject of Israel, I will continue to stay mum. I am a Muslim via my father, and I would like to think of myself as a fairly level-headed, non-biased person - I have my own opinions on the matter of Israel and Palestine, but those opinions are not things that I would like to bring up in a public forum.
Obama is not going to raise taxes, especially in the next 4 years. During tough economic times I think he'll lower taxes and let the Bush tax cuts expire.

One Obama is president he will realize that he has to protect the country and I wouldn't be surprised if GITMO stayed open until 2011. The only thing that makes me think Obama will close GITMO is the Attorney General, because he's a left wing person who doesn't like interrogation just like the head of the CIA.

I think Obama will move a good portion of the troops in Iraq to Afghanistan.

Holder and Panetta imo are good choices.

As for the bolded portion, how does keeping GITMO protect the country? I'm really, really curious because in my opinion it does nothing but promote the notion of "an eye for an eye".

no, the man's media image is a product. the man is a man. the expectations we have of him are because of the disaster that was the last 8 or so years and the media spin on his candidacy. americans want someone who can free them from the dogma and zealotry of the bush/cheney years. obama represents that as hope.

he has the toughest job in the world right now, and i don't envy that. we can't expect him to be a panacea, but the mere fact that americans have hope is the single best thing to come ouf of american politics in 4 years at least.

sure, be suspicious, and be critical, that's the duty of every one of us when it come sto politics, but don't paint him into a corner he has no chance of escaping from. give the man an opportunity. hell, he isn't even in office yet.

I'll give him all the time in the world, I have a feeling though his greatest effect, on Americans will be as a placebo.

Some of you may know, I sell bandwidth.

In my companies 10 year history, we have not seen network congestion, like we have in the last hour.

im not sure I appreciate that opinion Benzo.

you're made it clear over the last couple years that you're a straight up hard core conservative, and thats fine, there is nothing wrong with your political opinions. I just get the feeling that you are not only a bit angry, but you're not willing to support the new guy simply because he represents the 'other team".

His "promises" as you have poointed out are surely ambitious, as have been the promises made by every single President that has been in power in my 36 years of life. I find it redundnt to get into that discussion,. rather, I like to look at the direction he seems to want to go. It's a positive, and hopefully the shift can happen.

We all want a better world, it will take a while, but this seems so far to be a good step.

Talk is cheap though, I'll give ya that Benny, like I said yesterday, talking the tal is easy.... walking it is the real challenge.

I bet, it must be crazy.

I wonder if that type of widespread availibility to the event will have any type of global effect on attitude or on a shift of optimism.
