Default The Obama thread

I'm not really big into U.S. politics. I'm not really a political guy in general.
That being said, i wonder if any of you watched the Obama speech yesterday?

I caught some parts on youtube, and what dude said made a lot of sense. Again, i don't follow politics at all, and i'll straight up say that i don't know much of Obama's policies, but i'd like to know what you think of the whole preseidential race.

and if i can learn a thing or two from this thread, then good for me.

I haven heard it, but I read it wasnt his typical "Dreaming" speech. Aparently it was a pretty straitfoward realistic speech. I dont like that he wants to cut taxes though. Well it depends in the way he wants to cut taxes of course.

I'll get into this later on but he's overrated. I'll be back on later to defend the position.

Yup, the knock on Obama is he talks a mean game, but never follows through on anything he says.

Obama/Clinton race was vote for a women or a black guy.

Obama/ McCain race will be black vs white.

Issues have taken a back seat.

PS. I'm white...OJ is guilty.

This is shocking to say, but if Obama wins, I could easily see an assasination attempt just because of his skin colour.

This just in: ... John McCain chooses Sarah Palin (Female Governor of Alaska) as his running mate for the vice presidency.

Hmmm....Doesnt it appear as if..

Obama is going after the black + white vote with his running mate

and

McCain is going after the white + women vote with his running mate??

lol who cares about the issues huh?

claudius, i'm interested in what you have to say. i watched that speech last night and thought it was fantastic. no american politicain has ever said many of the things he said last night, and it was a breath of fresh air. he truly represents the kind of change that america needs, and even if he can't complete every task he sets out to do he has a great chance of restoring faith in washington. the knock on obama has been that he talks but never gets down to solid policy. he did that last night. some of the issues are going to be tough (ending us dependence on middle eastern oil in 10 years, for instance), but they are all what the country desperately needs now. if, at least, he can repair the foreign policy relationships of the us world-wide and bring in youth, hope and unity within the country he will undoubtedly be the best president since kennedy.

mccain's selection of sarah palin today was a stroke of genius. it certainly undermines the inexperience critique of the obama-biden ticket, but it will attract lots of diillusioned hillary supporters who straddle the dem-rep line anyways. we now have a watershe4d moment in both parties - a black presidential candidate and a woman vp. neither of these have ever happened before, and it gives a change message to both parties. brilliant tactical move.

one thing that i have discovered is that Obama writes all of his own speeches.

Hearing some of the words that he said yesterday - and the way he said them - makes me think that of the two options, he is the better of the two. It was a damn good speech, and knowing that it wasn't handed to him by a script writer is pretty impressive.

Ya - i guess he talks a "good" game, but has he really been in the position to be judged on much other than talk? Is any presidential candidate? I mean at least he says the right things.

Watching the convention coverage has made me realize why Republicans (and I'm not a fan of them) hate Democrats so much. How freaking annoying were the close up shots of the people in attendance with their stupid hats and facepaint, all crying and such? Bill O'Reilly's going to have a field day.

just watch the republican convention. it will be much, much worse. this is typical flag waving us patriotism. it makes me want to puke, but the reps are much worse than the dems for this crap.

he's definitely a candidate. what experience does mccain have? they are really both neophytes when it comes to a stage this big.

i'm listening to it now. he's shooting straight for the middle classes hearts. whether he acts on his promises or not, it'll take years for his policies to actually show development. if this is his vision, i'm all for him. i just hope people have enough patience to see his plan thru instead of measuring step back the economy will have to take in order to move ahead.

absolutely right funk. he knows he already appeals to rich urbanites and the poor. this speech was all about gaining ground with the middle class.

i think he's the best thing i've seen from american politics in my lifetime. patience will be necessary, but we've all been pretty patient for the past 8-30 years, so we should be used to it by now...

he's pretty high against globalization, which is cool with me, but what about nafta? i remember that was one of the issues that he was flip-flopping with. anyone know what his current stance on it is?

that was just posturing for the primaries. they all do it. he tried to paint hillary as totally pro-nafta to gain ground with the working class.

the fact that he's not mentioning it right now shows it's really not a big issue for him. in the end we will likely see him a pro-nafta, but softer than clinton.

If Americans don't elect Obama, especially after McCaine's VP pick today they are ******s.And deserve what they get with that gueezer.Obama's speech last night was his best to date by far, it was detailed, clear, precise and that man can speak like nobody else i've seen in my lifetime.

But then again this is the country that re-elected George W.Bush ,so anything can happen.
