Question Milk and Boobies

Breastfeeding in public? Any thoughts? Are you okay with it? Does it offend you? Why or why not? Just curious. I don't have much of an opinion on the matter, but apparently others do.

I've noticed that people are discussing this issue more often lately. Last week, ABC included public breastfeeding amongst the topics on its show "what would you do." They staged situations in which women were getting harassed by shop managers for breastfeeding, and the actions of the onlookers were mixed. Then, on the weekend, it came up again in the local newspaper (Winnipeg). A mother was breastfeeding at an indoor pool, and when an employee noticed she asked the mother to stop. As a result, a group of mothers staged a....er....protest? Basically a group of women fed their babies in public all at once.

So, milk and boobies in public. Yay or nay?

I admit I dont feel very confortable if someone I know does it next to me because Im not used to the situation (happend to me recently). But being "offended" by it is beyond dumb. Who could be offended by boobs!

i can't believe anyone would take issue with this. babies need to feed, moms need to feed them.

My wife breastfed in public, but she used a cape.

I don't see what the big deal is.

Reminds me of the first time I ever saw breast feeding. I was staying with a friend for a couple of weeks in the summer who was of Portuguese descent and his mother was breastfeeding his infant brother at the time. I was only in grade 5 and I was like, huh, what's she doing, lol.

I'm ok with it. However; if i'm at a restaurant and the breast feeding is at plain site of me and no cape is present I think the dual emotions would feel a little odd.

Other than that I'd rather have a baby being breast fed than a crying baby.

we implemented an offical 'breast-feeding friendly' policy in my office last year. the primary point was that if someone was bothered by having to witness breastfeeding in one of our public spaces (say a reception area) we would provide a room to move that person to, so the mother could stay where she was and not be interrupted. if the mother preferred a private space we would provide that instead, but only if that is what she requested. otherwise it was the complainer that got moved.

the vast majority of staff responded by saying "weren't we already doing this? no big deal." not a single person thought this wasn't the right thing to do.

Well I was just being silly with my comment. I see my Niece getting breast fed all the time and I could really care less. Most mothers do a fine job covering up the process so like trane said who really should make an issue of this.

Well as long as it wasn't your broomstick that might result in more babies.

there's no reason that they shouldn't have milk pumped when they're going out to restaurants. when i was working in the falls, it happened quite often without the use of a cape. it's great that they can be so open to the public with their milky boobies, but across from them there's going to be an uncomfortable family eating dinner with adolescent staring or afraid to look up from their plates. in a perfect world, yes there should be no problem anywhere or anytime, but it's not.
