I kissed a German girl when I was 10, but I don't remember her name. That memorable.

in response to the article, i recently just re-joined the dating scene again as of december and have been on a few dates since. while i don't like to be grouped with people referred to as acronyms and world of warcraft players, i can somewhat agree with what's being said in regards to in scene women. at least the ones i've met over the past couple of months.

there seems to be an underlying shallowness where dating isn't about relationships anymore, but public appearance and morning gossip. the whole 'sex in the city' persona. i, for one, cannot stomach it. first dates should be cute and uncomfortable, not interviews to see if you fit the required standard to fill that person's need. so impersonal.

as far as scripts go - i bet everyone has them, especially every dude who has seen goodfellas

here's an example of my frustrations

a few dates ago - i went to the lieutenant's pump (doc probably knows the place) - her choice. when i arrive, the place is so full that there's no seats available so we have to take a place by the bar.

i didn't run a tab with the bar since we didn't have seats, so i went to the bar to grab drinks all night. by all night, i mean from seven until close i was going to bar and grabbing us drinks. i felt like a complete fool, and not once did she offer to buy. i'd come back from the bathroom and she'd be waiting with an empty drink. who does that?

i fully understand the concept of the man paying on the first date, but that usually entitles dinner, dessert or popcorn. not near $200 on booze. i dont know, maybe i'm not used to this type of dating. i worked in the service industry for plenty of years beforehand, and even dating then wasn't so frustrating. you'd go to a comfy spot and have a few pints, eats or coffee. not to a crowded bar where you can be seen by your friends.

not my cup of tea

i'll take the advice given to TO and let it happen.

the dating scene is balls and i wouldn't wish it on any of you

btw

i'm 29 - you young kids have fun with it
Glad you found the thread Funk.... it was a good one if I do say so myself lol.

Your date sounds like one of many that I've been on. It's pretty much why I've stopped dating now.

I totally agree with you. The dating scene is catered to women for the most part. You DO feel like you're in a job interview. You feel like you have be trendy, entertaining, funny, witty, intelligent, athletic etc, etc, etc... it's exhausting.

It's easy for people to say "well just don't do anything and let it happen" but I'm sure that there was a point in EVERYONE's relationship where they put themselves out there.

Maybe the next time I'm out with a chick I should go the drunk/stoned route lol... I haven't tried that one yet Doc.

im totally happy to be out of the dating scene..as most of you have read on my engagment thread i popped the Q few weeks back...

Ive known my girl since i was 16. We dated other people but were always best of friends...in the last 4 or 5 years we really got close in a relationship standpoint and i have to say having a best friend as your woman is awesome.

I look back on the dates id go on, the pointless sex after 0, 1, 2 or 3 dates and then not bothering to call back.....lol...it all shaped me into the man i am today but also made me realise what i want the most out of a partner.

I think the dating scene serves its purpose at times but i just cannot stand women who expect you to pay for everything all the time..like shiiiet woman, i got things called bills and shit stop being so selfish! haha.

Anywho, since i popped the Q i think i've fallen more in love with my girl..i know once we are married we will have our ups and downs...it happens, thats life...but i know one thing for sure....i know i can count on her to get through anything

I started seeing this girl who lived out of town. It lasted about nine days.

On our first phone conversation she asked me the following:

1. Did I believe in god?
2. What were my thoughts on marriage and children?
3. Would I quit playing in bands once I decided to settle down?
4. Did I know anybody who owned a cottage and a boat?
5. Had I ever thought of putting a hot tub in my backyard?

Needless to say I didn't really answer her questions and I immediately knew I needed to end it, but continued to be nice until I could gently explain to her that it wasn't going to work out. Before I got a chance, she stopped taking my calls and I received a Dear John email stating that I was the greatest guy she'd ever met, but since our two dates were not very good (both consisted of her just showing up unexpectedly where I told here I was going to be hanging out) that it wasn't going to work out. She also said that had she known I didn't have my license and didn't own a car that she would've haven't even been interested in me.

So, any progress on the hot tub or...?

Maybe that's been your problem all along. Too serious for the ladies, so maybe alot of booze and a dance with Mary Jane and you'll find you future wife. Don't laugh either because it works.

i loved this thread. It brought me out of a bad place. It made me smile at least 6 times/page. you people are quite witty/funny. Had that completely empty feeling, where you didn't know what to do, and you try to hide it from those around you (in my case my mum) and you really can't, thankfully they understand and don't ask questions on it.

I don't know why but marriage has always been a sensitive issue for me. I do want to get married, but im very fearful of early commitment. My parents love each other, but there are times where it seems like they settled due to circumstances which makes me really sad.

this last bit on first kisses made me a bit sad, and i know it shouldn't but it's just the highschool me talking. I kissed her on my 17th birthday, in my room. We were saying bye and all, and i wanted an alone bye to her, without the guests. so i took her in, expecting nothing more than a hug, and she kissed me. now society tells us this makes me a loser, but i don't give a flying fuck. It was special, and that was possibly the best night of my life.

drugs seems to have done you guys well over the years, or at least somewhat, in the romantic department (including alcohol of course). For me, it's never led to anything. It's just led to more confidence, so asking more girls out, and rejections. Success in getting a girl to say yes has always come to me while sober.

now the reason why i was so down is because rejection based on race really fucking sucks. What are your takes on dating, etc and how race ties in?

to clarify, not religion, but strictly where you're from.
