Was listening to this on the edge on the way to work last week, it's incredible.

You have a country where so many people are so poor that they don't have the means to stay informed, and as such the minds of the majority can be manipulated by the informed wealthy minority. It's sad.

The influence of Christian fundamentalism is very dangerous in Africa. On one hand, you have a strong anti-gay sentiment that think murder is an appropriate response. On the other hand, you have a strong anti-witch sentiment that thinks burning children alive is an appropriate response. The root of both of these terrible trends in African thought is Christian fundamentalism, and can often be traced back to the US (in particular, a group known as "The Family").

The thing is stuff like this happens in North America more than you think. It may not target Homosexuals but it happens. You'll find a cult religion believing in someone or something to the extreme and being fed a jargon of lies. The people you see in the stands believing this guy would be the same as the very wealthy well to do people that died in a sweatlodge in Arizona not too long ago. This is not Africa its the people that start such seminars that should be at target.

The larger problem is how countries such as this are influenced by right-wing christians from the US, right down to recruiting political candidates and tying changes to laws which are horribly discriminatory to continued funding. And it's amazing how poor the coverage of the activities of the Family ends up being.

sadly - this is some of the only media coverage of what this thing is about.
