Headlines

there is so much going on in the world these days that it's hard to keep track of everything
i'm the kind of person who enjoys sitting down at the computer in the morning with a hot cup of coffee and leisurely look around for important and sometimes unusual stories from major newspapers around the world...i thought it would be fun to have a thread where i (and others) can post "Headlines" that are interesting...
the subjects can include Technology, the Arts, Science, Health, Travel, Entertainment, Regional or World News etc etc...just no sports please, because we are swamped with those topics here at RF already
and the more obscure the newspaper the better :)

RF members are encouraged to discuss the stories if they wish...but just viewing or posting links is fine as well
i'll start today with a few examples :)

so...your Headlines for Dec 23rd are

Behold the African Elephant. But Which One?

Senate poised to pass nuclear treaty, giving Obama a major victory

Teen birthrate at lowest point in seven decades

US Man HIV-free after stem cell transplant

Delicious Desserts at Stockholm’s Cafes[/quote]

Bankiz 12-24-2010 04:48 PM

i like this one. (this idea)

scientist allways discover some things so usefull. happy they progress on HIV. and on elephant's ancestral.

some good cake like the one we will eat for the dessert on christmas eve.

simplycrazy 12-24-2010 05:26 PM

i also like the idea, but it kinda takes away the point to the podium section.
But i guess its a decent place to discuss smaller world events, i still think the podium will be the spot for more of the most popular articles.

im especially happy that all of these seems to be relitively good news. especially the HIV and the teen birthrate ones.

Chiggmo 12-24-2010 09:54 PM

Ya I like this idea as well. All kinds of interesting stories throughout the world.

first off, i'd like to thank Benzo for moving this thread for me
i'll continue posting to see what kind of response the thread receives...members can add their own or simply view and comment everyday

RIP Pete Postlethwaite...out of all his films I've only seen the usual suspects, Inception and the town but he's a great actor and a guy you remember.

He was great in the Town too, the scene where's talking about how they kill horses with chemicals and what he did to Affleck's mom, that scene got me so pissed...couldn't wait till Pete's character got killed, but that's what the great actors do.

Yeah, RIP. An actor that always stood out when he was on screen.

An officer was killed this morning in Toronto after being run over by a stolen snow plow. He was 35.
