that greenland article was very interesting. global warming has gone from a theory to a fact looking at us straight in our face in the course of 15-20 years. There are obvious downfalls to this, but as this pointed out there are numerous benefits as well. for example the arctic minerals, oils, gasses. it's really opening up a new rush for resources, similar to the space rush in the 60's-80's. are we a species that will be able to evolve to the new environment, or will we slowly cause our own extinction?

Here's a pretty good take on how the denying continues.

m.guardian.co.uk

Really, it's sad that action has been delayed for decades. There's a good chance that a tipping point will make reacting appropriately, and adapting, very difficult. And that tipping might have already come.

Personally I think the tipping point has already come and gone. The arctic might have ice free summers in 3 years (LINK), and once the permafrost starts to thaw and release all that methane (LINK) then it's accelerated climate change, changes in ocean currents, collapse of food chains, etc...

30 years from now things might not be pretty at all. I kind of laugh when people say stuff like "this just means more months of the year that we can mine copper in Nunavut".

This is just so stupidly hateful. And then he doesn't want the attention that would obviously come from something so stupidly hateful, taking it to another level of stupidity. And it's probably so stupid that it should just be ignored, but oh well...
