There was a job posted for a work term in the Yukon in the engineering job competition at my uni. They were offering 100$ a day in food money on top of the regular salary.

I have a friend who works for the city who has told me similar horror stories. he once needed a lock changed and had a quote for about $100.... but it had to be done by the union-approved contractor and ended up being $1200 charged to the city. It is so disgusting.

And when you look at the unbelievable cuts they are trying to make to our schools, at a time when they are already hurting for funds.... makes me want to puke.

I'm a little stunned that our Government can parade around and get all the exposure they want when they send aid and manpower to NYC for 9/11 or to effin Haiti, but when a Mall falls on 100 people in Elliot Lake they call off the search for survivors because its not safe. Not just that, local Search and Rescue Minors who are willing to sign waivers are not being allowed, by the Police, to go in and save people.

It's fucking Horrible.

maybe i don't have all the facts, but how is it the government's fault? mcguinty pushed them to go back after the emergency response team called off the rescue, and then he went to stevie h and made sure the military could be involved if necessary. i didn't see anyone saying the gov't had anything to do with abondoning the search.
