that news about coke changing it's colour formula is such a joke. sure, carcinogens are bad. they should probably take that out (even though you would have to ingest massive amounts of it to have an impact), but nobody cares about the 39 grams of sugar and huge incidence of diabetes in north america, or about all the other chemicals in the food we eat and pop we drink.

we have such a selective outrage trigger.

I didn't read the article but that reminds me of some peoples view of aspertame in diet coke, flavoured water, etc. I had friends that wouldn't touch anything with aspertame in it because they were afraid of getting brain cancer, yet they would easily go for a double big mac combo at Mcdonalds.

Putting the spotlight on cops | Toronto & GTA | News | Toronto Sun

Curious... the comment posts after the article (and virtually any article mentioning police) are overwhemingly negative. Is this the true sentiment of the public these days?

Feedback appreciated.

interesting...
Quote:
Back in 2007, on the advice of Pickens, the Cowboys athletic department purchased policies for 27 of their very biggest fans. Most were donors and season ticket holders, and all were over the age of 65. Upon an insured donor's death, Lincoln Financial would pay out $10 million to the sole beneficiary, the OSU athletic department. It was called the "Gift of a Lifetime" program, and it was a wager, like all life insurance, but presumably the actuarial tables were in the university's favor.

Then, no one died.

For two years, no one died, and OSU was on the hook for the annual premiums, to the tune of $33 million. So in 2009 the school canceled the program, accepting that betting on and hoping for the deaths of its donors was "morally bankrupt" and a financial failure.
