I know hockey is a contact sport, but this goes way over the line. This kid should be suspended for the rest of the season, minimum.

David Branch would just make sure this kid would never play again I dunno about the Q. I heard Patrick Roy pressed charges on the kid on behalf of his team

Such behaviour has no place in hockey, regardless of whether we're talking about the juniors or pros. I used to love watching hockey, but not so much now. Since the late 1990s, it's been going to shit (commence attacks on me), in my opinion. That elbow by Cormier was dispicable. Unfortunately, that type of garbage has been happening quite often in the NHL, too, and it goes unpunished. Cormier's elbow looks a lot like the ones I've seen in the NHL the past couple of years. The article made comparisons between Cormier and Pronger, but Pronger is by no means the only douchebag "throwing bows" on people. At the pro level, I find it so annoying how the player association always defends these guys when the league office tries to suspend them. Now, unfortunately, the league doesn't even try to suspend players after worthy infractions. I mean, seriously, unions are supposed to look out for the employees' health. The NHLPA is a joke. They should definitely come down very hard on Cormier while he is in the QMJHL, because he's not going to be taught a lesson once he's in the NHL. It's now or never.

Wow, you can see as soon as he got on the ice he was looking for him. He should be banned for life. I was once again listening to the radio this morning and they had someone on talking about this, and he said he's seen worse and that as long as the player gets up, nobody says a thing for the most part.
IMO, playing a professional sport is a privilege and shit like that should take that privilege away for life. |

When I said a lesson, I was thinking along the lines of having him suspended and hanging upside down blindfolded at centre ice with his head about five feet from ice level while the kid that he hit and his entire family all get to skate by and take turns elbowing him in the head.

my problem is that this was planned.
like jeff said, you can see he was gunning for him from the time he jumps in... and thats the issue. in a game moment, in the heat of the moment, this kind of thing happens... its still horrible (and deserves hefty suspensions) - but it happens. but this guys knew what he was doing, he planned it.. there was intent to injure. and thats what makes this 100 times worse. this guy should be banned for a long time. blacklist him and make an example out of him.... show the country that this type of thing is not tolerated. |

Unfortunately there seems to be a place for this shit in hockey. Would it happen again and again and again and again otherwise?
I stopped watching altogether for three reasons. 1. I promised my roommates that I would never watch another game if they gave up their tv rights and allowed me to watch the Flames win the cup back in 89. That one stopped counting once I could afford to buy my own TV. 2. All the hugging and waltzing around the ice every five minutes of what would otherwise be intense competitions. 3. All the basically criminal acts that repeatedly take place in the game, and all excused to far to high of a degree. Even if people come out against it - how about doing something about it? This shit could have been stopped when Gretzky was calling for an end to fighting, and that was a long time ago. |

how fast are these guys traveling when they're coasting or picking up steam. it's a fast game. the sheer velocity of that elbow could've killed him.
i always hate it when proponents for fighting argue that it's a necessary part of the game and fail to leave out how fast it is. pads or no pads, you're dealing with bone, wood, ice, steel, and a litany of other career ending objects. using them as weapons is criminal, and if you go by what is categorized as criminal intent, then a lot of the shit that goes on in hockey is criminally punishable. the problem is the gladiator code and the necessity acts and violent sports play in the psychology of civilization. there's a lot of pissed off people, angry at the world, who don't know how to deal with this in any other way than watching some guy get pummeled. or worse. |

Cormier though should receive a lifetime ban in the Q, but the Q's commissioner is a bit wishy washy when it comes to stuff like that. David Branch would have immediately suspended the guy for life. |
