Why is an insurance company seen as being morally superior to so-called government hand-outs? Because they make a profit? Because they are so good at getting government handouts themselves? Because they can make it extremely difficult to receive the benefits a person is supposed to be entitled to? Because it allows the privileged rich a chance to enjoy their privileges in terms of their lives literally being worth more than other lives?

The desire to further reinforce vicious inequalities can't be a net positive for anyone in the end. Even the insurance companies will suffer for no longer having anyone to bail them out.

I don't have as much of a problem with the idea of communities working together to solve problems in lieu of government involvement. But I don't think there are a lot of models with respect to healthcare in developed countries that prove to be adequate. Just pointing to insurance companies as the means of lessening the need for government, seems pretty weak, and ultimately inhumane. There is a reason that emergency rooms must treat all those seeking medical attention by law. It shows the obvious limit to requiring insurance and relying on everyone to buy insurance. There is a difference between people and widgets.

If I mean what? then yes to what?

America does indeed have a responsibility to Iraq and Afghanistan to rebuild what it has destroyed. You don't get to fly over a country (one that you, yourself have stated didn't attack the US) bomb the shit out of it, occupy it, then leave with little repercussions. You break it you bought it. America has created this responsibility along with the one they have to Israel. You don't just get to turtle because there is no profit or the buzz for retaliation wears thin.

It's pretty surreal for me to hear audiences cheering executions one night, and then on another night hearing them egg on the candidates and moderator concerning whether a person without coverage should be left to die with a few vehement outbursts in the affirmative. The bloodlust is incredible. The monster that these guys have unleashed is going to fuck them over in the end, and I have to worry that it gets much uglier. When do we see the torches and pitchforks?

A lot of Tea partiers are insane. When Wolf Blitzer asked if they should just let that guy die (with no insurance) and some were yelling Yes....that tells you something about the atmosphere in that room. In my lifetime i have never seen such a polorized society as it currently is in the US. Each candidate is walking on egg shells on everything they say, more than ever before. They can't offend the far right wacko's and Tea partiers but if they're too radically right they'll never get the independants, moderates and will lose many minority votes. And the blatant lies being thrown around is complete horseshit. Yesterday, Perry was saying that Obama's stimulus package has created zero jobs. Now, anyone with half a brain knows that's a blatant lie, but it's becoming the norm now and more extreme than ever.

Why are you assuming that the jackass that yelled yes was a Tea Party member? It couldve been anyone... Likely a drunk radical.

Why are americans so afraid to of universal healthcare. I remember when the whole discussion about healthcare was going on a couple years ago, the country was pretty split on universal healthcare. If i'm not mistaken most polls were saying that 55% of Americans wanted universal healthcare. I've never understood how a lot of these politicians can constantly lie about universal healthcare and how awful it is in ever country that has it with a straight face, when the leading cause for bankcrptcy in their country is escalating medical bills.
If only things were so simple.

Most (educated) Americans *WANT* universal healthcare, like how we got it. I'll never forget 5yrs ago when my pops had cancer, and overcame it, him telling me that if we were in the States, b/c of our income level, the odds would've been bigtime stacked against him from getting the care he got which enabled him to overcome it.

What American's don't want is to be further taxed; which is what the transition to universal healthcare would bring - due to all the bullshit politricks that dominate the White House.

What's more, in the social & political climate going on now & in recent years, no educated American trusts the special interest groups - and healthcare in America is unfortunately one in the same with special interest groups.

Really, even if the economy wasn't so bad & folk were prosperous like they were before the Afgan & Iraq wars (back when USA enjoyed record profits), Americans would still be up shit's creek in trying to get universal healthcare, simply due to the special interests doing what they can to eliminate competition & keep their wealth. That's exactly why dick all got done about it during the 90s.

It's a tricky thing for anyone with the intent to solve it to talk about it, b/c there's more issues that need to be tackled, before they can begin to establish universal healthcare like how we got. To compare it to video games, that's a boss fight; you still got to do so many things beforehand in order to tackle that.

Thus far, Dr. Ron Paul has the best solution to begin tackling it: have a smaller government, cut the bullshit spending, and create competition within the healthcare industry - and going with that, ensure those in healthcare seeking to maintain status quo of their profits even in the soon-to-be new way of doing things, ensure that they'd be liable for any anti-trust dealing they have in mind to act upon. Those are things needed for America to begin to have our type of universal healthcare.

Edit: I'm not super-political minded (I still have a hard time grasping many concepts; perhaps Im getting there though), but that's the best way I could explain it.

What's the saying about a picture meaning a thousand words? Here's your modern utopia when the government allocates resources, removes individual liberties and manages the society:
