TORaptor4Ever 06-08-2010 01:38 PM

Staying the hell away from downtown.... and regretting the delays that I'll be going through with my commute to the airport. :sigh:

'trane 06-08-2010 01:39 PM

finding all kinds of fun ways to disparage the tories.

perhaps i'll take a dip in a man made lake...

Windex 06-08-2010 01:39 PM

I might have to fly back to Toronto around G20 time, that'll be a bitch

fancylad 06-08-2010 01:40 PM

actually, i should probably ask if anyone here knows what to expect. I live really close to the closed off area (although i am not in it exactly). anyways, from what i've quickly skimmed through it sounds like 3 days will really be affected, but i'd like to know what we're up against.

If anyone is familiar with these conferences and their effects on cities please share your knowledge.

a confrence like this is rare, but I know you had to get premission to enter the area around the dome if you work in nearby buildings

:dancing: anarchists

England allows protesters on the streets a lot though, you see at least 4 a week
I didn't think Canada had the same amount

XiaominWu 06-08-2010 01:59 PM

Anarchists from all countires it seems.... they just fly in to cause shit and then leave once it's over. Like World Cup hoodlums minus the soccer game lol.

Some of my buddies are police officers and they mentioned that EVERY cop in the city will be working that week... in full uniform. No exceptions. Yikes.

it's a mixed bag. there are a lot of very interesting and very thoughtful people that get lumped in with the more extreme anarchists, and there are lots of shades of grey in between.

there are academics and writers, photographers, bloggers, professional protesters (yes, it's ironic, i get that), disaffected youth, concerned trade unionists, and straight up anarchists. there are all shades of the left wing, and several shades of the right. people are protesting all kinds of different things, and saying it in all kinds of different ways. a lot of it is valuable, but all of that gets lost because the media just lumps everyone together as a group of violent nonsense-filled anarchists.

Windex 06-08-2010 02:25 PM

its funny, they don't like capitalism but they give mucho $$$ to capatalistic plane companies, hotels, car rentals, etc..

'trane 06-08-2010 02:26 PM
