i'll bet 9 or 10 have a very good idea of why they are there. that doesn't mean they deserve support, but don't be so arrogant to assume that people who are willing to put their livelihoods on the line for a cause don't know what that cause is. they know exactly why they are there, they just have terrible tactics.

Oh piss off, I have a friend down there as we speak, he has spoken to a number of people JUST FOR THIS ARGUMENT and guess what trane, half of haven't a clue.

Nobody says there aren't people down there who know the score, but don't be so quick to assume that this is so meaningful. Everything loses is luster eventually. People riot for sports games now.

And who are you to call me arrogant, seems to me you've become arrogant yourself in doing so.

Sj...... out.

Actual protests and real democratic dissent is getting squeezed out on both sides. I don't see how regular protestors can carry on without having to worry about being used by these morons that are making Harper look good for spending a billion plus. Meanwhile people are getting arrested for no reason, and we all have very few rights thanks to McGuinty's legislation. All so some pledges can be made and not kept.

Protesting and rioting are entirely different processes.

When peaceful protesters are upstaged by the "black bloc" system of creating anarchy their message is both disregarded and forgotten.

Young kids reliving the 60's is fine by me. Peaceful and purposeful Protest is, and will always be a suitable and acceptable political vehicle.

The Black Bloc is not
Rioting is not
Hooliganism is not.

Oddly, they are all in there poking at the Police and screaming ridiculous blather at them about the cost of the Security for the G20. It's as if they forget that protesting and rioting is expected, what is not expected, and what is being defended against is the very real threat of a more global and destructive attack by external terror cell types.

You don't spend a Billion bucks on motorcades, new police gear and fencing guys. You do spend it on big time surveillance, Airspace protection, border and CSIS intelligence etc.

Its the fucking G20. It's important that the top guys on the planet not be killed. Its also important to keep your political meetings in you capital cities, its a showing of non-compliance to terror threats, and a way to let people know you aren't going to buck under terror tactics. You pay a financial price for these types of political moves.

I'm not pro harper, oh jesus I think he's an evil robot, but the bigger picture remains. And if a few little Riot monkeys decide to compromise the safety of the summit attendee's, well, perhaps they shouldn't cry foul when they get a baton to the face. If you're a peaceful sort, and you run in the same vicinity, you're gonna get caught in the crosshairs, don't fucking blame the Police, they didn't ask you to be there.

Anyhow.

Like I said.

Protest good.
Riot bad.

Shit, pretty serious stuff if you tune in to CP24 right now. They just put out a fire that was lighted on a police car.

Wouldn't it be something if the peaceful protesters started protesting against these assclowns?

As an aside, I don't think they're doing anything untoward, but the gawkers are annoying, with their mugging for the news cameras and mobile uploads.

ok i don't really get it, some explain to me why summits like this are held in crowded cities, why not hold them in isolated areas like up north near military training camps? i just found it stupid to place it in cities with the threat that peoples businesses are threated to be trashed

so its pretty much an ego thing for harper here? man i thought these talks were supposed to focus on the world's situation, have them in a quiet place with no threat of riots.
i wonder how many times the talks have been postponed today, so much time lost on delicate issues its stupid.
not only that but hundreds of people were threatened today, my dad was in there for fucks sakes, came home with a pretty fucked arm

its stupid, but hey its a stupid world

I can even get the idea of direct action against private property. But this is not direct action. It's not a clear act against or for anything, and it's an indirect means. Oh - and it's stupid.

i remember this morning when i was watching the news, they tried speaking to these hoodlums to see what they were here representing. surprisingly, they didn't respond with anything. bring out the rubber bullets and tear gas!!! if you're a peacefully protesting walking with these fools, maybe you should remember what your parents told you about hanging around the wrong crowd.

I for one take no pride in the ability of our leaders to hold a meeting in a city.

Although...I'm sure terrorists and evil-doers worldwide are soaking the ground with their tears at this symbolic ass-whooping handed to them by this meeting.

SJ!! Come on dude. You're a smart guy. What it represents?? Billions of dollars just to show that you can?!?!?

Show who exactly???

And why???

To show "we" are "not scared"??

If they spent a few hundred thousands dollars and met in a more efficient manner...would that mean that "Evil" won?

Is that why a few billion dollars were spent, some "flexin". Posturing.
