yup, my boss has already mentioned that we may get the week off (work from home)...

my best friends are cops... TOrap is right, none of them are allowed to take any time off or vacations during this time... they will all be working.
on a side note, this is probably a good time to do something illegal (not downtown). every cop will pretty much be pre-occupied in this thing.

Your rat tail brings all the girls to the yard... and they're like "it's better than Pa's".

I veer towards anarchism. I think ideally it provides for the strongest forms of democracy.

I've never been to a protest, nor am I likely to ever. I can't overcome being part of an apathetic generation I guess. Honestly, if they came up with something other than hey hey ho ho I might give it a try.

I've known plenty in my time. I've found that basically they care about shit more than I ever could. Maybe they care a little too much about some things. But the theatrics they enter into is a lot easier for me to handle than the theater of pure bullshit that this billion dollar assertion of power will be. I believe all the G20 people will wear t-shirts that say FUCK the PEOPLE. Of course they will be worn under 3-piece suits. That is until they all strip down to swim in the fake lake in the early hours of the morning after sucking back one too many glasses of ice wine.

The assumption that all the protesters "care too much" is as crazy as saying ALL the G20 committee members are out for the good of the world.

Both theaters are bullshit...."a plague on both your houses" and such. I would venture a guess that 80% of the protesters don't know what the hell they are protesting.... actually I have no idea what the hell the are protesting.

For the most part I find it absolutely hilarious, that they are exercising their "right to protest" against the very governments that give them the "right to protest". They should try that shit in North Korea and see how it works out.

I love that argument. It's become like an out-clause in today's society to simply skirt the issues that plague modern democracies.

Benzo, they're protesting the fact that the idea of progress and democracy and economic liberalism etc. are the way that all societies should govern, yet many of the G20 nations themselves are shams to these exact ideologies as our society is based on nepotism, oligarchies, progress for the sake of progress and unadulterated consumerism in the face of far reaching repercussions.

The fact of the matter is that both structures have inherent faults built into them and neither of the power players in any ideology choose to recognize or even discuss these shortcomings and faults.

Sorry...for this CG...but Blah Blah Blah Blah.

I work and try to structure my life around every action or decision I make to have a purpose. If I am going to oppose something, I will have a solution or an idea to back up my opposition.

So they are protesting the fact that the idea of progress and democracy and economic liberalism etc. are the way that all societies should govern, yet many of the G20 nations themselves are shams to these exact ideologies as our society is based on nepotism, oligarchies, progress for the sake of progress and unadulterated consumerism in the face of far reaching repercussions. (nice copy and paste job huh). To what end....what would they like to have happen, what is their solution? Turning to disturbing the peace and damaging private property, for what? why? When the Palestinians protest, they at least have a solution an answer to the question, when the group of Chinese students got killed in Tienanmen square they were begging for something.

What do the protesters want....WHAT IS THE SOLUTION???

I was not referring to ALL the protesters in way shape or form. Nor was I making any kind of assumptions. I was making a statement based on what I've observed from people that I know.

And the rather vague description of caring too much was not done without purpose. I agree that the notion of just what they care about is pretty foggy. I still find it pretty hard to see that as being such a blasphemous, insulting negative.

The idea that these governments offer the right to protest is actually unfuckingbelievably hilarious. There is so little actual dissent allowed anywhere north of Mexico that it calls into question the ability to actually refer to ourselves as a democracy. This continent has fully supported the use of torture, human experimentation programs, and the illegal use of drones. The dissent we will get to see here will involve a bunch of people kept in a cage far from anyone's gaze. And if anything goes beyond that, then special weapons placed throughout a militarized Toronto will squelch it. Because nobody is going to stop these fuckers from talking about how they can talk about forking shitloads of money to idiots that want to gamble away billions at every opportunity.

that question assumes that they are one large group with identical aims and identical solutions, which is most certainly not the case.

you would have to ask each individual group - and most would be happy to tell you whgat their solutions are. but at this point i would be more than happy with governments asking themselves some serious questions about power, consumerism and sustainability. that would be a great start. to demand that anyone who openly questions our system has already worked out a complete and total re-structuring of world government and world finance is a tad over-rigorous, don't you think?

the solution is far, far away. honest questions, honest answers, opening up of secrecy and power and a fair treatment of dissenting voices owuld be a start.

Generally for me - less corporate power and more emphasis and reliance on communities built around much stronger democratic ideals and involving much more personal responsibility.

And yeah - I know it ain't happening. Not being North Korea is going to be the ceiling. I get that. But I can't shit on a bunch of kids that think that ceiling could be broken through.

smart of them to put the g20 in canada, right before our real estate bubbles burst's. Most canadians have their head burried in the sand and want to ignore that our finance minister and central bank govenor are also in bed with the banks just like every where else in the world. LA LA LA LA, low intrest rates dont cause bubbles, the CMHC isnt insuring one trillion in shit mortgages with the money of 30 million tax payers, Canada is different.
Very good timing, cause a year or two from now there is likely to be a whole shit
load of pissed of Canadian's.
