Canada Post strike

So what's going on with this? When are we in Ontario going to be affected?

Also i just want to say that it's pretty bogus that Canada Post isn't considered an essential service. I would think not having any mail for an extended amount of time is going to seriously fuck things up for a lot of people.

It's totally affecting me at work here. We use mail a lot - for some pretty important things too.

I often get cheques from clients in the mail.... so, for me, it is an essential service.

I'm not happy about it.

I'm not old. Some clients prefer to pay via mailed cheque. It's still a common thing.

Thanks futureboy. :)

I do my personal finance stuff online too.

but i was just speaking in general terms. Not everyone is as independant of regular mail such as you (or i).

this strike is killing me. i mail out a couple hundred cheques each week to vulverable people in our city. major disruption.

fancylad 06-03-2011 12:51 PM

again, does anyone know of the specifics of the strike affecting our area? Has it already started?

It's affecting us @ work. A lot of people depend on receiving their payments through mail and vendors expect it as well.

I have a bittersweet feeling about this.

I heard I get my $100 from the gov't will be around next week. I'm not happy. But I subscribed a Pacquiao-Mosley PPV last month without my parents' permission and it was $50ish - our cable bills might get delayed!

A possible strike could create a lot of havoc where I work. Yes it seems that so many things are done online, but there are many services that still require correspondence by snail mail. Where I work, a digital signature is not good enough. Also, there are many seniors who still rely on regular mail. Maybe over time, this will change, but for now, they are still an essential service.

What's the $100 from? Is it child tax benefits? You mean to say your parents give you this money? Or is it something else?
