As a proponent of hand sanitizer and making it widely available, I give you this article...

Just wait until I break into his house in the middle of the night and cough over all of his utensils.

Regardless of what people think, I'm not a germaphobe. I did go through a period of time in the late 90's where I suffered from OCD, but I got that under control. I just don't like being sick because it seems to cripple me for a week and a half, and being a stay at home dad, that makes things very difficult when all you want to do is crawl into bed and be miserable. My son was 2 months premature, so we initially had to be careful and it's sort of carried over to now. I don't do anything freakish - I just make sure I use sanitizer when I'm out and wash my hands whenever I come home from being out. That's really the extent. A lot of people don't do that and they get sick when they don't need to be and run around town touching door handles and coughing and sneezing and getting other people sick. It's like we're at the mercy of how well these people want to take care of themselves and I don't appreciate it. They say, "Sickness is inevitable!" and while it is sometimes, there are steps you can take to cut down the number of times you are sick during the course of a year.

Nothing's wrong with soap and water under the proper circumstances, but you mentioned before the public washroom where you work, where there's a lot more going on than soap and water. In cases like that, hand sanitizer works wonders. And to reiterate what I was saying before about the myth surrounding it, take a look at this...

Quote:
Hand Hygiene, Truths, Myths and Misinformation

There are many misconceptions about hand hygiene on the Internet. Hopefully, this information will help clear up some of those misconceptions.Washing your hands with soap and water will kill germs.

Truth or misinformation?

Misinformation

1. Plain soaps have minimal if any antimicrobial activity.
2. In several studies, hand washing with plain soap failed to remove bad microorganisms (pathogens) from the hands of hospital personnel.
3. Hand washing with plain soap can result in an increase in bacterial counts on the skin.
4. Occasionally, contaminated plain soaps have colonized hands with Gram-negative bacteria

Alcohol rubs cause (bacterial) mutation and resistance.

Truth or Myth?

Myth

1. Dead microorganisms don’t mutate. Alcohol rubs (biocides) kill microorganisms.
2. Current scientific evidence has not shown a link exists between the use of topical antimicrobial formulations and antiseptic or antibiotic resistance.
3. Antiseptics (biocides) have multiple (thousands) of nonspecific killing sites on and in the microbial cell which cannot easily mutate.
4. Antibiotics and antibacterial soaps (triclosan) have one very specific killing site on and in the microbial cell which can easily mutate.
5. Antibiotic resistance has no affect on the effectiveness of (biocides) antiseptics.
It should be noted that this only applies to alcohol based hand sanitizers with an alcohol content of 60% or over.

Great, I had a post planned for next week about the sterility of urine. Who's the bubble boy here?

Is that the one?

Why do I think there was a yellow sponge or some sort of scrub brush?
