He was unarmed. There was no firefight. As the details come out that's what is becoming clear - it was a choice to execute.

Well, it was night time. A lot of shots being fired all over the place in that house and a lot of chaos. Fact is if they told him not to move and he makes a move shoot his ass. We weren't there and haven't got a clue what happened. And if you believe what they're saying about being unarmed, then you have to believe them when they said he resisted. Personally i think we're better off with him dead. Him alive, waiting for trial would be insanity for months and would only end with him getting executed anyway.

I'm sure he resisted. That doesn't mean he can't be captured.

Sure, but in that moment in the dark of night with all that chaos going on. Hard to say what could have been done differently since we weren't there and to say he could have EASILY been captured is hindsight and a little naive. Plus i think Bin Laden would have done anything not to be catured alive imo.

I don't know - I suspect it's an act. DFR instead of FDR? Of course it could be just another dumbass, but I almost felt a wink coming on.

Osama had a butler. That was a good one.

What constitutes a terrorist?

Terrible individual? Yes. I agree whole heartedly there.

Dead or Alive....preferably dead seemed to be the prevailing theme here.

However, I've done some reading and in the context of US history, it's entirely unsurprising that this is the outcome.

Placed in an even greater context of the prevalent racism found in certain parts of the US and the US Army it doesn't really shock me anymore.

That's a tautologous argument, since you've already defined Al-Qaeda as a terrorist group. That's saying "A terrorist is a terrorist."

For what it's worth, I'm not convinced that 9/11 was the worst of bin Laden's actions, either.

CNN is reporting that Obama has decided to NOT release the Bin Laden death photos.

Let the conspiracy theories begin.

I see your point. While the argument is logical, it isn't compelling. I guess his confession to coordinating the attacks makes him a terrorist.

I'd argue that it makes him a criminal more than anything.

I really despise the term terrorist as it can't be easily defined. From a perspective, the US Army etc. can be seen as terrorists.

The term is thrown around far too often.

Really huh? I don't know if it's that easy to define a terrorist.

I always saw Bin Laden as a war criminal more than anything. And if you're at war (as defined by the US being at war with Al Qaeda) then there's been enough historical precedence that targeting civilians is seen more as collateral damage instead of an act of terrorism (which I disagree with but regardless).

I can claim that terrorism is only based on the perception of the victim. There's a saying that one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. I always point to that to show how difficult it really is to define what a terrorist is.

bin Laden, did commit mass amounts of evil, preyed on the psyche of individuals and was an opportunist. Terrible human being, definitely.

I see what you mean but the 911 attacks were committed before any war was formally declared by either side (although the attack was the declaration, there was no formal warning). Therefore, all the attacks were were the killing of innocent civilians for political reasons, with no warning, and that's what I consider an act of terrorism.

Then when both sides had declared and acknowledged war, anything that happens after is, as you've said, collateral damage.
