I would say I spent 90% of my first four years of high school depressed and a good majority avoiding certain people. And maybe with each year removed from high-school I forget about how bad the situation really was, but I can't help but think now how much of it was internal and how many friendships were probably actually available if I wasn't so selective. You get older and the pressures felt in high school really evaporate to a certain degree.

I don't think her situation was really as bad as it was in her own head. She clearly had some serious depression going on, and in addition to changing schools, and going to therapy, she really would of benefited from somebody stepping up and taking away her Facebook.

When a girl sleeps with another girl's BF in high-school, fights happen. I don't think the whole school was against her like she made it out to be in her own head.

Their was probably a good number of people in the school who thought the asshole posting her picture was just that, a huge asshole for doing so.

I don't think it's productive blaming 15 year olds for the death of a 15 year old who had mental sickness. It's a delicate situation.

broken home... i'm not surprised that happened, to be honest... it's a whole new world out there for kids with the internet and social media.

what i don't get is how in hell this girl was left alone for a second after putting that youtube video up.

i never understand the lengths people take it to on both sides of bullying. never seen this stuff in any school I've been too and school fights usually blow over quickly.
worse things have happened to people I know and they never took their own life.
sad story though

i know what you mean but when you compare bullying now compared to the past, if you got bullied in the past it would only occur at the school yard and you can go home and forget about it.

now you get bullied not only at school but online as well, so really kids dont have that safe blanket that most of us used to have

So true. Back in the day things didn't spread easy. It was usually only by word of mouth.

I think having an older sibling helps a hell of a lot. Well, at least for me it did.

ya now everything spreads on twitter, facebook or even youtube. doesnt help that kids as young as 9 or 10 are carrying phones on them so it just makes everything worse

This

My brother is a unique individual and we have a strange relationship but I know I can always rely on him if it's important and vice versa. Some situations I don't know what would have happened without him

Amanda Todd: Bullied girl’s memorial pages targeted by negative messages

link

Quote:
Even after the death of Port Coquitlam teen Amanda Todd, bullies are actively posting hateful messages on Facebook memorial pages.

Messages that poke fun at her death and make Todd out to be a villain are followed by reactions from the online community, shaming those attacking her.

Two “R.I.P. Amanda Todd” Facebook pages, which combined had nearly one million likes as of Saturday night, are filled with comments, photos, videos and messages. Some commenters mourned the loss of the teen, who was found dead on Wednesday, while others had a darker tone.

One picture shows the silhouette of a female body hanging dead along with the mocking phrase: “Todding.”

Other commenters said she deserved the negative attention that she’d received from bullies after having a topless photo posted online when she was in Grade 7.

Why is this world filled with so much hate? I know it's probably only the 2% of people on these Facebook pages that are doing these things, but it only takes that 2% to torment a person enough to end their life. Sick. Grow up.

teens and especially highschoolers for the most part, are sheep. They follow the herd and think and act in certain ways without understanding anything. In my highschool, once a person was labelled as something, it was pretty much stuck. If a girl was labeled as a slut for example, then she was considered a slut by everyone who didnt know her and didnt really want to get to know her. Rarely were people forced to be completly alone (at least in my grade) so the "slut" had her own group of freinds. And nothing more usually hapened then behind the back gossip and shit talking. Kids are idiots

I'm not gonna comment on this... I'm pretty sure every one of you would hate me for what I'd have to say on it... I'm not sympathetic at all in situations like this, cuz I gaurentee what I went through was worse

Each individual deals with mental health issues differently. Each situation is different. Each situation is bad, there are no levels when it's something personal like this. We cannot and I repeat, cannot judge everything on certain levels that are arbitrarily chosen.

You can maintain your stance, I would imagine you would say something along the lines of she's a coward (for committing suicide) or she deserved it (for entering into the situation) as you somewhat elude to that in your post.

However, I too have been bullied in my life which has had a profound impact on how I view myself to this very day, however, I can't sit here and judge the poor girl.

What I can do, is judge the internet and examine how it's cultivated a culture or irresponsibility (possibly not the correct word). It's created a culture where we don't take responsibility for our words because we are separated by a computer screen. I read comment sections (because it's a part of my job) every day and every day I read the immaturity on those things. I can simply imagine, what can happen, when one person, who already feels insecure, afraid and depressed, feels like when they read comments on a daily basis (negative ones) directed at her. It's a depressing thought, just sitting here.

I truly feel for this girl and the self-torment and afflicted torment she felt.

It's not about you, and to be honest, your comment is immature and a little bit sad.

Because I believe theres always another way than taking your own life, its the cowards way out. You admit defeat and that you really are a weak person right then and there.

And I'm not going into any detail about anything i went through in high school.

I do understand where your coming from and I was doing my best not to come off as ignorent ass with what I was saying, but I guess I did a bit.

Bullied isn't a word that even describes what I went through in high school, nor does it matter at this point, everything can be overcome, and its what makes you the person you become in life.

But I'm not gonna sit here and try to say what her exact situation was though or try to slander her in any way.

whatever dude, you're coming off like a child speaking like that. But then I dunno you, maybe you ARE a child, maybe your a kid, I dunno.

I got news for you, you're alive, so whatever you think you went through, I'd say it wasnt as bad, she thought it was so much so that she hung herself. Period. Clearly you don't understand the topic.

I know that over in the UK they've started jailing people for "internet trolling"... maybe it's high time they start doing the same thing here.

If I were Amanda's father or brother I think there's a good chance that I'd be going to jail... because I'd do everything in my power to find that azzhole stalker and make him wish he was never born.
