I am curious... Is there a link directly between Hedo and Serb/Croatian culture? Or is there a link between Turkish and Serb/Croatian culture?

Please elaborate. I am curious.

and welcome BTW, big G and Yattara.

Serbs & Croats & Bosnians were once Ottoman citizens .

In fact when Hedo made it to NBA , it was Vlademir Divac who looked after him and showed him the ropes , so to speak .

Fancy lad, Hedo's parents were born in former Yugoslavia. I am not sure but most probably they were descendants of muslim Turks planted in the Balkans by Ottoman Empire. Hedo's parents immigrated back to homeland and Hedo was later born in Istanbul.

Obviously the parents and relatives spoke both Turkish and Serbo-Croation interchangably at home so Hedo became fluent in both languages.

I remember reading an interview of Hedo and Peja (Stojakovich) by a Serbian journalist and he was amazed at the fluency of Hedo in SC.

Funny stuff because Hedo has slavic accent in English rather than Turkish. I know it because I am also both fluent in Turkish and one slavic language (Russian).

Gotcha. thanks for answering big G.

In that case, Turkoglu may feel more at home here as the former Yugoslavian communities in Toronto are rather large.

Yeah I guess so. I know that he is a good friend of Rasho Nesterovich knowing him from San Antonio stint. Most probably he spoke to him on the phone about Toronto and got first hand info on the organization and the city.

click the 'user cp' tab at the top of the page. you will notice an 'edit avatar' option on the left hand side. from there you can enter the web address of the pic you want to use. it should be easy from there. let me know if you have any more problems.

Hi everyone from Southern California...

I am a fan of the NBA, a Lakers fan, and a follower of Okur & Turkoglu...

Hope to post here from time to time...

Looking forward to next season... Go Raptors!

Prediction: Magic are 1 and done in the playoffs... Toronto plays in Division Finals against either Boston or Cleveland...

How's it going guys. I've been looking for another Raps board since Hoopsworld's forum essentially died and I think I've found one.

I'm a die-hard Raptors fan who is still suffering from the woes of last season. I've been with the Raptors since day 1, attending games during the innagural season as a 8-9 year-old. Consequently, I've never looked back.

Welcome to RF Rene.
I'm a pretty enthusiastic German soccer fan as well. We can certainly have those conversations too. Basti is on the top of my list of favoured soccer players. I wish he played for HSV, rather than Bayern though. Oh well, I'm content with Jansen and Trochowski.

The national program looks very strong too when you consider we won the under 17, under 19 and under 21 championships this summer. Things are definitely looking up especially for next summer in South Africa.
