Don't like what people are posting? Make your opinion heard!

Hey everyone

We have a new feature implemented here at RF. We encourage you to rate the posts of your fellow members, much like YouTube. This is promote positive and thoughtful posts, as well as curb the negative ones. Here's how it works.

Beside every post, you have the option to give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down rating. Any post that receives FIVE negative ratings will automatically collapse. That means your post won't show up to anyone unless they actually go through the trouble of clicking the icon to expand it's view again. So be careful what you post!

Any post that receives at least FIVE positive posts automatically is deemed a "Great Post." More to come on that soon.

So if a fellow member posts something amazing, why not give them a thumbs up? If someone is just spewing negativity, help us get rid of it!

**Admin Edit** Collapsing posts function will be added shortly...

great idea.

Dr. J. Naismith 01-14-2009 10:12 PM

Wicked idea lang. :appl:

Torontosaurus 01-14-2009 10:24 PM

I like the idea of praising someone's posts if they say something worthwhile, but it also sounds like people who are tight or members of a clique could somewhat abuse this and censor an individual that they don't like and that sounds a bit troubling to me.

I'm actually afraid to post my different viewpoint for fear of censorship :face4:

On another note, maybe positive marks could be used as selection criteria for MOM

I'll adjust the default number of ratings as we use it more to accommodate the size of our community. We're just trying it out for now, but definitely use it and give feedback if you can.

Gurk 01-14-2009 10:52 PM

Nice idea lang. Hopefully it works properly and isn't abused

INSIDER 01-14-2009 11:29 PM

coool.:yeah:

Superjudge 01-15-2009 12:27 AM

I guess my days are numbered... ;)

Kris 01-15-2009 10:56 AM

Brilliant idea! :yeah:

jumplvlan23 01-15-2009 12:17 PM

I guess it is a great idea, but it can be VERY EASILY abused like Torontosaurus said.

I'm willing to bet that there will be individuals who will just give you a negative rating if you go against what they say, even if you bring up a good argument.

EDIT: I have already witnessed it happening in the "time to stand up for CB4" thread. There are individuals there who give an argument without insulting anybody, yet they receive "negative" rating because they think CB4 is not a good player for this franchise. I don't agree with what they say, nor do I agree with them receiving a "negative" rating UNLESS they insulted someone in the process.

-1
just joking Jump:)

i dont think it will really get abused because it takes 5 people to give it a negative rank.
if one person gives you a negative rating because you disagree with them, then it'll take 4 more people to rate you negatively. and the odds of that happening arent too high.
i think it'll work to shut down idiot posts and posts that are just rude and obnoxious.

Yeah, its not etched in stone jump. We just want to try some new things here on a trial basis. :)

Thanks for the feedback though.

I see it happening in other threads too, where someone gives an awesome argument, but STILL gets a negative rating because there are individuals who just don't agree with it.

Come to think of it now, I dislike this "rating" idea. Although it is a GREAT idea for what it is meant for (seperate the good posts from the bad)... it certainly does not have that effect. Instead, it's a rating system of "how well you blend in with the norm".. if you don't share the same ideas as everyone else, you can get a horrible rating even if you bring up a good argument.. which i think is wrong.

Snooch 01-15-2009 12:28 PM

I think its cool.

JUst hope others dont get jealous when I am rocking all these gold star great posts......:mischief:

jumplvlan23 01-15-2009 12:29 PM

Oops nevermind... I had the notion that if you receive a negative -5 in total from ALL your posts.. then ALL your posts will be masked. I didn't know that if it was -5 for one PARTICULAR post, then that specific post gets masked.

Carry on children ;).

I agree... why do we need another tool for people to abuse each other? :confused2:

Snooch 01-23-2009 12:40 PM

All I know is I had a plus 9 on a post earlier and nothing happened., no gold stars, no nothing.

Don't worry - things will all make sense once you become the new Member of the Month. :)
