I really never look hard on Capela until now so let's compare.
A Payne = 23 years old, can shoot 3's, good on FT's, can shoot perimeter j's, 50.3% total FG's, little upside, finish product, health issue
C Capela = 20 years old, can't shoot 3's, 45.5% Ft's, poor jump shooter, high upside, very raw. FG's around the rim 71.8% mostly dunks and alley's. In 3 years time I don't think he can shoot 3's any closer to Payne 3's shooting ability but he can be a better rebounder and shot blocker.
Some people comparing Payne to Charlie V while Capela can be a DeAndre Jordan type of a player
True, neither will not impact team experience level but Payne can help the team now.
Via Dan Tolzman interview it seems like Raptors
are considering Capela, what really bother's me about him is his FT's shooting.
Shaq, Howard, DA Jordan and Drummond all cannot shoot FT's. So I get what you saying.
