The pitcher on the mound has a team, he has a catcher that he's always communicating with and working with. Every pitch. A mistake and his defense can bail him out. The responsibility is not all his. The kicker has his team, the snapper, the place holder, his blockers. The boxer has his trainer yelling encouragement and advice.
A free throw shooter has nobody. Nobody can help you at the free throw line. Nobody can mess-up for you at the free throw line. The responsibility is all 100% on the free throw shooter.
But guess what, it's just a basketball saying. It's been around for quite awhile. You dont' need to try and discredit everything.
