In reviewing the possible destinations for Kyle Lowry, I came up with the following teams where he would start:
Chicago, LA Lakers, New York
And other possible destinations who could use him as a 6th man:
I suppose you could throw Milwaukee in the mix too because their management is terrible and Lowry would fit in the disjointed nature of their team, but I wont since they already seem committed to seeing what they have in Knight, then they have Ridnour and Wolters behind him.
Here's what I found with regard to the possible teams that could trade for Lowry to start him:
CHI trades: Hinrich, future 1st
TOR trades: Lowry
Lowry for Hinrich works straight up, but we get no value back since Hinrich has no upside(but is expiring). On the flip side, it's hard to see the Bulls wanting to trade a 1st rounder for a rental, so this may put CHI out of the running, unless they just trade a 2014 pick plus their TPE straight up for Lowry which I dont think works anyway. So I guess that eliminates CHI as a Lowry landing spot.
LAL trades: Chris Kaman, 2014 1st round pick
TOR trades: Kyle Lowry
Again, it's hard to see us getting a 2014 1st rounder for Lowry so this trade is unlikely, so I went back and did this instead:
LAL trades: Xavier Henry, Chris Kaman
TOR trades: Kyle Lowry
I think this trade makes a lot of sense for both sides, as TOR gets a good prospect back for Lowry, and LAL gets a starting PG back who will be a very good fit with Kobe. Lakers have a log jam at SG/SF right now with Meeks, Kobe, Young, Johnson, and Henry, and no starting caliber PG. It just depends on how much the Lakers value Henry, who has shown good improvement this year.
New York has nothing of substance to give us besides Shumpert, and it would have to be a 3 team deal that would include Felton, as I cant see Masai taking back Feltons 2 more years on his deal without a 1st round pick, something the Knicks dont have for a few seasons. So the Knicks can be crossed off the list unless its a 3 team deal.
TOR trades: Lowry, Hansbrough
MIN trades: Barea, Cunningham, 2014 1st
Another scenario where it's unlikely that MIN gives up their 1st round pick for a rental, but they'd get a nice upgrade in Lowry as their 6th man, who would be able to play with a tall PG like Rubio.
Lastly, I couldnt configure a trade with WAS that worked under the salary cap involving Maynor coming back to us, with a future 1st rd pick(2014 1st went to PHX in Gortat deal), but I could see WAS trying to upgrade their putrid bench, and also allow Wall to rest a bit more since hes playing a ridiculous amount of minutes right now. They're also in win now mode so a trade for Lowry would make sense.
