Even that has been overblown IMO. $6M/yr for 3 years.... so what? Not great, but far from horrid.
How is it far from horrid, given his minimal production? Especially with the way the new salary cap is structured, giving role players/bench players 5+ million per season is a true cap killing, and team building killing contract. Your statement is completely wrong on so many levels. Yes, he provides energy and some defence, but he's a complete negative on the offensive end as we're playing 4 on 5 with him on the floor against any decent defensive team, and as an individual defender, he's ok in certain matchups, but he's not the versatile defender you'd expect given his reputation, as he isn't capable of guarding quicker guards, only bigger forwards effectively for long stretches.

Anyone who calls Fields a good player at this point is out of their damn mind. He cant be effective over a long stretch of minutes on a consistent game to game basis at the SG or SF position because his offence is putrid, and in todays NBA where you need your SG/SF position to space the floor, he kills the offence because whoever is guarding him can play center field. Plus again, his defence is massively overrated by anyone who says it's more than average, and that's only against bigger SG/SFs like Johnson and Melo, who he's only had mild success against. And he's not a great help defender who is able to cover for his teammates like a Battier, so essentially what is he GOOD at? Rebounding. Woop dee dee.
