Knight? Unproven and overrated, mayo is a chucker, delfino is a 6/7 man at best, illyasova has fallen off after last years skiles debacle. Out of them all, Larry sanders is their most intriguing player but is also unproven and had 6 good months of ball last year.
I really don't see how these guys will be a playoff team at all.... their bench is ok, but not great.
I don't know that they are overrated (who rates them highly?) but you could very well be right.
Their perimeter defense will be below average. And they will have trouble defending legit offensive centers. They'll block some shots but overall i think they won't be a good defensive team. So they have to be good on offense. But their best individual offense creator is OJ Mayo. Their second best offensive player is probably Ilyasova, who can't create for himself at all.
So they will need a great system to get them looks. They hired Larry Drew, and judging by what he did in Atlanta, they will probably run, space the floor, and run a motion type of offense with a lot of screens, cuts, movement. But in Atlanta, Drew built that offense around Horford/Smith, two skilled passing bigs who played very well with each other. He will have to completely rethink it in Milwaukee.
So it will be interesting. They have a roster with a lot of shooters and mobile players. They have a coach who fits that roster very well, on paper. They have decent depth and several interesting young players who might improve. But they will completely depend on their coach to figure out a great system and teach it.
If they make the playoffs, I think Larry Drew will deserve very strong Coach of the Year consideration.
