could also be attributed to handling stress. shooting free throws can and normally are more stressful than in play. I was a near perfect free throw shooter in practice, and slightly above 80 percent in game, while I nearly always drained the open mid range jumper. in play you're more focused on the game and less stressed about missing, it's more automatic for some, while free throws can get to you with fans screaming in your face.
