The fact is that up untill that game he hadn't done much.
Trade: Andrea Bargnani
If you want a real development of Ross, he needs to get a starting role and compete with opponent's starting lineup. However, we have Derozan as our starting SG and with DD starting for SG, Ross will only get a chance to play as a backup.
If we were to put Ross as Starting SG, we have three options for DD:
1. Play DD as starting SF
2. Play DD as bench scorer
3. Trade DD
Option #1 is a fail. Can you imagine DD matching up with:
LBJ, KD, Melo, Batum, Gay, Pierce, Wallace, Deng, AK, Iggy...
Even those below average SFs like Marvin Williams, Gee, Turner... are better than DD as SF. He can't shoot 3's nor grab rebounds. DD just doesn't possess skills enough skills as starting SF.
Option #2 is a waste. Why would you pay him $10M/yr to play as bench scorer, when he's not even as explosive in offense like Martin, Crawford, Ginobili, etc.
That being said, DD should be traded for a better good, if we want to play Ross for starter.
