I watched Godard's número deux today. It's an early use of video experimentation that is really challenging and confrontational, but very rewarding if you can make it through it. He films two tv monitors that make use of the medium of television itself to show the mundane lives of family members one step removed from the distance that cinema already starts at. It ends up feeling very much like cinéma vérité, and if you can get past the state of the technology back them, it is filled with a lot of thought-provoking blunt presentations of ideas, in something of a new cinematic language, or the attempt to create one at least.
I love Godard. He makes me wish I knew french though. The reading can be pretty intense.
