A couple of comments:
1 - this is the type of question you address after the playoffs, once you see how far the current core can get, and who is more important in getting the team there.
2 -related to point # 1: this is about more than just Westbrook versus Harden, because keeping Harden might be cheaper, which then enables OKC to keep Ibaka and Perkins. If keeping that frontcourt together is a big part of future success, you take that into account. Keeping Westbrook might not only mean you trade Harden, it might mean you are also forced to trade one of Perkins or Ibaka, because you need money to round out the roster. There is more going on here than just Westbrook versus Harden.
3- Even if Westbrook is the best player, it might be better to trade him because of the return package he nets you.
It's a tough call until you know if Westbrook is a huge part of winning you the title. OKC still might win it all this year.
Edit - for example, suppose okc goes to the final and westbrook goes insane and wins finals mvp. That will make it very hard to trade him.
