As a starting point yes. But he is going to have an agent that is going to advise him against limiting himself unnecessarily. A multi year deal at minimum ties him up regardless of how well he plays, when he could otherwise be looking at a good payoff in a hurry. So there has to be a nice point somewhere in the middle, where he can be happy with longer-term security while getting a bit more than just the minimum. He'd be nuts to take min for more than a one year deal if he is advised properly, but at the same time he has to look at giving up potentially bigger contracts if he accepts the longer-term deals. Both sides bring a certain premium to the table.
