Boris Diaw requests trade

He's been fat for a while

With the trade deadline nine days away, Boris Diaw is looking for a way out of Charlotte.

According to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins met with Diaw before the All-Star break to discuss his role and expiring contract. In the days after that conversation, Higgins has also been in contact with Diaw's agent.

"Boris and I had a meeting prior to the All-Star break, maybe Wednesday before. We talked about quite a few things,'' Higgins said. "The issue with the buyout, it was raised on their side, from Doug. We haven't gone down that road any further.''

As the Bobcats' second-highest-paid player, the 29-year-old Diaw is set to make $9 million this season. If he remains a Bobcat through the deadline, he could end up being bought out by the team. Higgins stressed that any serious conversations about a buyout would only take place after the deadline.

While Diaw has often been ridiculed for his less than exemplary fitness levels in recent seasons, he is a passing big man who has shown the ability to rack up a triple-double, something contending teams could be interested in.

Diaw's agent wasn't available for comment, but reporters did speak with Diaw about his situation. Not surprisingly, he didn't really answer the question, giving a generic response about hard work instead.

Asked if he'd like to be traded, or would be receptive to a buyout, Diaw was noncommittal Tuesday morning.

"We don't control that,'' Diaw said of trade possibilities. "Everybody wants to make the playoffs and win, but there is some work to do here, too. We can get this team to be better, and right now I'm trying to do that.''

It sounds better when it's Rasheed Wallace dodging questions, doesn't it?
